Just announced on Hawaii TV news.
"They're sending Gore...BWAHAHA!"
CHARLIE DON'T SURF!
I share your concern as well, but on the other hand--Kerry should have had this state locked up from the get-go. If anyone told the Kerry camp months ago that less than a week before election day they'd be vying for HI's votes, they'd say you were a lunatic.
And we've been hearing from the dems how Kerry apparently has FL and OH. While I'm very worried about those two states, I don't buy that it's in the bag for them. If they were, they wouldn't need HI's EV, period.
Sending the VP for a trip to HI, just a plane ride away, is not wasting time IMO.
Now, if he spent the whole weekend there, that would concern me.
BTW, please see 72.
This is insurance. If Bush does barely win this thing, he can lose almost virtually every battleground state and STILL win if he gets HI's or NH's 4 electoral votes.
Just because they are trying to get this insurance doesn't actually mean they believe it is close enough they will need it, however. It is just a precaution in case the internal polling and GOTV efforts are way wrong the Dems are much better organized due to Moveon's drives etc., causing the race to be almost tied.
"I'm trying not to panic....but don't know why they'd go to hawaii...if we had our base down, we don't need it."
We have to win by a landslide. It is the only way we can prevent the Dems from stealing the election.
"I was hoping for the twins."
...in matching bikinis.
I concur.
FGS, it's four electoral votes. It's like spiking the ball.
Some might consider this move a bluff, maybe giving the appearance of a winning campaign when in fact the election is so close that one or two items of bad news for Bush and it swings for Kerry. I love GWB, but I am not a fan of Rove. If this turns out to be a bluff move and Bush loses ...
Just on the radio...
Cheney at the Convention Center on Sunday night. Starts at 10:00 pm, speaks at 11:00.
Now it's really getting scary. ;)
considering Gore's track record maybe Kerry wanted to get him as far away as possible.
see post 72. This is insurance....even if hell breaks loose on virtually every other battleground state and Kerry wins most of them except Florida and Wisconsin and Missouri (my post includes some that aren't real battlegrounds, just ones that the polls have gone wacky on sometimes), Bush would still win by taking the 4 votes from HI or NH.
What bad info has been leaked?
that was my thought. It could be an interesting night waiting for Hawaii's vote count to come in to decide the election. Better stock up on the gin before Tuesday.
I'm not Rove or Bush, but so far it's following my prediction made months ago.
I thought given the conditions they have to operate under that an early break out was impossible. While the MSM doesn't have quite the power they used to, I don't underestimate their influence either.
My prediction has been that the polls would tighten at the end, then it would break wide open for a decisive win in one of the candidates favor. This country does not want another 2000.
My gut check feeling has been that when confronted with finally having to make a choice, reality will set in, and they'll break for Bush in that ballot booth.
This prediction, barring the unexpected, would seem to be on its way towards materializing. We're going to find out soon if this is the case.
My fear is the new video from the ABC affiliate will damage Bush.
But...um....that video isn't getting much play in the press so far online at least.
Joe Moore just announced on the local news as well but didn't say what time. He also said Kerry's daughter will be in Kalihi Elementary at 8 p.m. tomorrow.
There's not a chance of Hawaii going Bush/Cheney. This is a waste of precious time so close to Tuesday.
I havn't seen the video anywhere except through e-mail & in comparison to Edwards. Great stuff.
Kerry's daughter is going to be at an elementary school in Kalihi vs. Cheney at the Convention Center. For those not familiar with the area, Kalihi is a place you really don't want to get caught after dark. Perhaps a safe Dem district?
