Republican Gov. Rick Perry refused to honor United Nations Day, even as President Bush signed a U.N. proclamation, because doing so would be inconsistent with the governor's views, his spokeswoman said.
In his proclamation, Bush also had urged governors to "honor the observance of United Nations Day," which was celebrated Sunday around the world to commemorate the date the organization was founded in 1945.
"It was a conscious decision to not issue the proclamation out of concern over the lack of support the U.N. has shown for United States efforts to bring freedom and democracy to the world," Perry spokeswoman Kathy Walt said.
Me too. I could absolutely not live anywhere else after living here my entire life. There's just no way I'd be happy unless in Texas.
Almost as good as yours.
Thanks for the pic.
(Welcome to FR)
Humma..humma...hummaah!!
This act alone may earn him my vote in spite of the toll plan.
Correct
Amen

if only we had a current president that could hold to a view like that.
Sorry I missed the day.
I would have flown my American flag upside down.
Rick Perry doesn't like big government. He has vetoed more bills than any Texas governor in history. He's created some controversy by being a bit of a bull in a china shop but I still like him (especially since he's a fellow graduate of our beautiful alma mater, Texas A&M!)
haha! Way to go, Rick Perry!And welcome to FreeRepublic.com, Ahriman .....
To Kofi Annan with love,
Bart
another reason I'm so proud to be a Texican.
We're sure not going to nominate that Democrat in Republican clothing, Carole Keeton Strayhorn.
Four thousand dollars on the drum,
For those wholl volunteer to come
And enlist to fight the foe today,
Over the hills and far away.
Oer the hills, we will attack
Afghanistan and then Iraq;
George Bush commands and we obey,
Over the hills and far away.
When duty calls me, I must go
To stand and face another foe;
But part of me will always stray
Over the hills and far away.
Oer the hills, from sea to land,
Iraq, and then on to Iran;
George Bush commands and we obey,
Over the hills and far away.
If I should fall to fight no more,
As many comrades did before,
Then ask the pipes and drums to play
"Over the hills and far away".
Oer the hills, pro patria,
Iran and then Arabia;
George Bush commands and we obey,
Over the hills and far away.
Then fall in, lads, behind the drum,
With colours blazing like the sun,
Along the road to come what may,
Over the hills and far away.
Oer the hills we will advance,
Through Belgium, Germany, and France;
George Bush commands and we obey,
Over the hills and far away."
I think you may need to back to High School, name one other leader elected statewide in our nation who has governed as they campaigned. We need more stand up guys like Rick Perry. Who can touch him in a TX election? Kay, the Breck girl? come on get a life
Do you even read the posts I have made, or do you just have a set of talking points that you want to plug in any way you can? When did I talk about either candidate being a bigger vote getter? Can you give me the quote? Because I looked back, and I don't think I said anything like that. Reading your other posts, I can tell you are a die hard supporter of Rick Perry, and that's alright. But I don't like it when you make up things that I said, or say that I need to go back to high school and get a life because I don't think Perry is presidential material. I think you need to get a life and stop worshipping Rick Perry. But I don't know. Just calling 'em like I see 'em.
