OK I'm going to sound like one of the end times nuts despite being a non-religious agnostic, but doesn't it say somewhere in the book of revalations that the armies of the world will march towards israel and that the army from the north turns their back on everyone else?

Doesn't sound like it.

Russia Touts Return Of Iraq Arms Inspectors 27 October 2004 -- Russia has called for the United Nations Security Council to discuss the return of UN weapons inspectors to Iraq following the disappearance of 342 metric tons of high explosives in the country.

Russia's Ambassador to the UN Andrei Denisov said the explosives could pose a dangerous threat. He said at least some Iraqi officials would welcome a renewal of UN weapons inspections.

However, U.S. Ambassador to the UN John Danforth, did not back new UN involvement in weapons searches in Iraq.

Danforth said the most immediate need was to find out when the explosives disappeared and what happened to them. He said this was a job that would be best carried out by the CIA-led Iraq Survey Group.

Iraqi officials have said the explosives at the Al-Qaqaa facility went missing after 9 April 2003 due to theft and looting.

Well, don't know if anyone's said this or not but I recall some Russian diplomats being hustled out of Iraq VERY last minute from their embassy there. I was head scratchin' over why these "diplomats"* would risk being there when they knew we were coming in.

Go to the Drudge report of a few days back where England is complaining of stepped up Russian spy games there to Cold War levels. In fact, Russia has NEVER stopped their Cold War espionage games. They just ran out of money.

Suppose that this was all PLANNED w/ Russia during the run up and the pussy-footing at the UN....sort of like good cop/bad cop - Saddam (and his cohorts at the UN) are the perps.

Russia does not want to lose big bucks when Saddam goes out - but really would prefer he were gone. So, they "work with him" but not really. They get their stuff, get the dangerous goodies out of what they know will soon be a war zone, and don't tip France and Germany by siding outright with the US. This would explain the reports that Russia convinced Saddam that we wouldn't actually invade. This sounds to me like the ultimate double cross. Sounds like a KGB novel. Oh, wait...KGB....

Maybe my tinfoil hat is on too tight...but NOTHING would shock me here...

And finally, to answer your question....if this were the case, the MSM will spin it that Bush LIED and kept all this secret. Oh, and they might mention that BUSH LIED.

Look at in light of the big picture. Saddam was trying to get the sanctions eased. He may not have believed the US would invade, but was moving the WMDs out of Iraq before letting inspectors have full run of all suspected sites. UNSCOM come in. Doesn't find anything. Sanctions lifted. WMDs get shipped back.

I can see your point gov_bean_ counter. These weapons in particular however had already been tagged by the inspectors. Would be kind of difficult to explain their disappearance on the subsequent rounds.

You all may be right. We'll just have to see how this one plays out.

Regards.

Saddam and Chirac were positive we would not. Putin knew the jig was up and pulled his weapons outta there.

When we went in, we found illegal weapons from France, Germany and China.

3. John Shaw...on record blaming it on the Russians...spin this rove

But in a further development, John Shaw, a deputy under-secretary of defence, suggested that “Russian units” had transported the explosives out of the country.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Mr Shaw said: “For nearly nine months my office has been aware of an elaborate scheme set up by Saddam Hussein to finance and disguise his weapons purchases through his international suppliers, principally the Russians and French. That network included. . . employing various Russian units on the eve of hostilities to orchestrate the collection of munitions and assure their transport out of Iraq via Syria.”

The Russian embassy in Washington rejected the claims as “nonsense”, saying there were no Russian military in the country at the time.

Desperate bunch of buggars aren't they?

That is really, really, sick.

And totally over the top, for a US Senator that does nothing but talk, and grow the gov.

Sick.

Of course I have hated every Senator for years now, their careers in gov have made them too elite.

(well, maybe not Jeff Sessions, he impresses me during hearings)

My Senators are Levin and Stabacow, as we call her.

Yes but it also says that a two million man army will march over the River Euphrates. Only country I know that has that many foot soldiers is -- Red (and really Red) China.

One time ping, this is an interesting article about Russians selling WMDs to Iraq and then providing a weapons 'clean up guy' just before Op. Iraq Freedom.

Thought some of you might have an interest. Thanks to Avenger for finding it.

....So because various people are too stupid to keep their mouths shut, we may have a two-front war on our hands. And we have John Kerry, a mere candidate for office, to thank for that.

Did I get that right?

Bravo, Congressman Billybob! I think you are right on target.

During the debates, I was frustrated that President Bush did not use more facts to refute Kerry's charges that there were no WMDs found.

I was so frustrated ... but then it came to me that Bush knows a whole lot more than he can talk about - and Kerry was taking advantage of that.

Kerry got away with it in the debates, but now, it's gonna come crashing down on Kerry - in a VERY BIG way. He has made a complete and utter fool of himself over the past few days....
