ABCNEWS HOLDS TERROR WARNING TAPE

In the last week before the election, ABCNEWS is holding on a videotaped message from a purported al Qaeda terrorist warning of a new attack on America, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
The terrorist claims on tape the next attack will dwarf 9/11. "The streets will run with blood," and "America will mourn in silence" because they will be unable to count the number of the dead. Further claims: America has brought this on itself for electing George Bush who has made war on Islam by destroying the Taliban and making war on Al Qaeda.
ABCNEWS strongly denies holding the tape back from broadcast over political concerns during the last days of the election.
The CIA is analyzing the tape, a top federal source tells the DRUDGE REPORT.
ABCNEWS obtained the tape from a source in Waziristan, Pakistan over the weekend, sources tells DRUDGE.
"We have been working 24 hours a day trying to authenticate [the tape]," a senior ABCNEWS source said Wednesday morning.
The terrorist's face is concealed by a head dress, and speaks in an American accent, making it difficult to identify the individual, but US intelligence officials believe that man may be Adam Gadhan - aka Adam Pearlman - a southern California native who was highlighted by the FBI in May as an individual most likely to be involved in or have knowledge of the next al Qaeda attacks.
According to the FBI, Gadahn, 25, attended al-Qaida training camps and served as an al-Qaida translator.
The disturbing tape runs an hour -- the man simply identifies himself as 'Assam the American.'

All this is just more proof to me that Osama ben Laden is dead and gone. He's under a pile of rocks somewhere between East Pakistan and Iran.

I doubt DU'ers actually understand the seriousness of this, and it's OBVIOUS that New York didn't learn it's lesson as it is STILL A BLUE STATE. NJ and PA are on the edge of red day to day, so SOMEONE over there, DOESN'T GET IT. I asked the ABC local station if they knew about ABC holding a terrorist tape. Received back this interesting reply.
" We haven't heard anything like this. I seriously doubt that any such tape exists. It would be extraordinary for a network to withhold something like this...unless asked by the government. But even then, they might be inclined to report that the government is trying to suppress the information. Just doesn't add up to me."

Wait a minute, we just castigated NYT and CBS for running stories that had not been verified, now we are demonizing ABC for doing the opposite. They could have run the story with the caution that it is unverified, however. But the decision on whether or not to release the tape should rest with the administration.
I agree with your assessment. It is a fact that ABC turned the tape over to the gov't. That doesn't sound like they were just "sitting on it". Perhaps in this age of instant verification, ABC did not want to air the tape until it could be authenticated...

If ABC had it in Pak on Monday, they probably know someone in the embassy to get it to after they made a copy for themselves (CYA, you know)...

True. We have many people that have been in harms way in many places around the world. Some have been injured and some killed. And it's likely that the public will ever know their stories.
A man who thinks his hair cut, hair color, lipstick and makeup is so important isn't a man others will easily follow to their deaths. A man who has spit on our military for decades isn't fit to be where Kerry is today.

Well, not that terrorists have to make sense, BUT, before 9/11 there was no reason for anyone to think Bush was going to do anything differently than Clinton, and all the other former presidents had done in the mideast, even Reagan bailed out of Lebanon. Bush didn't even do anything different about the attack on the Cole, which really irritated me at the time. In fact he got the Muslim vote in 2000.
I think this tape was revealed too soon also, and the guy just mis-spoke and meant to say re-electing, or maybe he was just keeping it vague, or maybe absolute precision wasn't his biggest concern.
Now, this raises the possibility that ABC intended to sit on this until AFTER election day, and then play it. Probably their lawyer(s) said "ARE YOU CRAZY?!?!?" and made them call the gov't. And somebody dropped the dime to Drudge.
Yes. My comment was flippant. They should have reported they had the tape, and that they handed the tape over to the CIA. They did not do this because terror threats hurt kerry and bolster bush.
