Mail Call - Aggie Band should not make political statements
The Battalion - Online ^ | October 26, 2004 | Marlene Roberts

The Aggie Band made a blatantly obvious political statement during the halftime show at the Colorado game with their W-formation. I found this highly inappropriate and offensive, as the political stand is not representative of the entire student body. There is a time and place for everything so. To Dr. Timothy Rhea, director of bands, I would just like to say let's let football be football and save the politics for another time and place.

From a Baylor Bear '65-a big "attaboy" to the FTAB, I wish the Golden Wave had that kind of courage.

BTW, if A&M plays like they're capable of, the A&M-UT game could be pretty exciting this year. About your tag line. Isn't it kind of like saying "Kick Stephen Hawking's @ss?"

The only difference between Baylor and Lady Di this is that Baylor doesn't get killed until they're out of the tunnel.

I agree it should be quite a game, but it's not yet time for the Beat the *ell out of TU tagline just yet, we still have OU, TTU (my daughter is a student there . . . will be a tough weekend) and then you guys.

My Aggie Little brothers response:

Hey dude. All is well here. We have all types in Texas. Back when I was in school and the Aggie Bonfire was still going on, there was a group called "Aggies Against Bonfire." Their 12-15 members would picket the bonfire each year... surrounded by about 10X as many cops to protect them.

The complaint about the band is stupid - especially given that W's dad was at the game standing right in front of the band when they did it!

My little brother got his BS, masters & PHD at A & M, and his JD at UT Austin, but he is 100% Aggie when it comes to football.

Sorry it's taken me so long to find this thread.

What they are complaining about is actually an old drill. I asked a former BQ friend of mine and he said they used to call it the "Flying W" drill. AKA known as the Whataburger drill. I was there from 89-93, so the drill is at least that old. =)
