IRVING -- An armed Dallas man suspected of trying to hold up apartment residents was critically injured after getting into a fight with the victims, who defended themselves with a knife and sword.
The 20-year-old suspect, who brandished a handgun, was stabbed in the neck and suffered life-threatening injuries, police said. He was in Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas on Tuesday morning. Police did not release the names of the suspect or victims.
The brawl occurred about 8:30 p.m. Monday in the 3300 block of Willow Creek Drive at the Tanner Apartments. A 20-year-old Irving man was standing outside his friend's apartment when he was confronted by two suspects -- one armed with a handgun, police said. The suspects forced the Irving man into his friend's apartment, police said.
Once inside, the suspect with the handgun began pistol whipping the Irving man and demanded money from two other victims in the apartment, police said.
The Irving man and his 26-year-old friend, armed with the sword and knife, began fighting with the suspects, police said. The suspect fired several shots, but no one was hit.
Neighbors called 911 after hearing a disturbance in the apartment, police said.
A 19-year-old Irving woman also was in the apartment, but she was not injured, police said.
At some point during the fight, the suspect was stabbed, police said. The second suspect fled when he heard police sirens, police said.
The 20-year-old Irving man who was pistol whipped was treated at the scene, police said. His 26-year-old friend was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital, suffering from cuts to his foot, police said.

live by the gun, die by the sword.
We KNEW this would happen, after the assault-sword ban expired...
Hello! My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die!
"Not so random or clumsy as a blaster."

"THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!"
Wonder if he was a fencer, or a kendoka, or just a samurai wannabe?
people who have taken kendo or iaido for a few years can do pretty scary things with a katana. O_O
Lesson: Never try to use a gun for whipping? Oh that's right, the assualt whip ban was never revoked. Never bring a (pistol)whip to a sword fight?
Wonder if he was a fencer, or a kendoka, or just a samurai wannabe?
SCA, maybe?
"This home insured by Wilkinson Sword Company. Trespassers will be run through".

Anybody you know?
When did I wind up on the set of the Highlander ???
Sushi chef?

(Thanks to whomever it was I stole this from.)
I fenced in college and for about 10 years afterwards (foil and sabre), and the guys who were SCAing around here in the 80s were just pitiful. Mostly because their weapons were too heavy, and a fencer could get in and out and tag them while they were still in the wind-up.
Good thing this happened in Texas and not in some socialist state like NY or MA. If it would have happened there the victim would have been charged and the gunman would have hired John Edwards to sue.

I wouldn't mess with him, would you?
Ting!
