I've been hoping Bush will at least take the 2nd CD's electoral vote. Polls showed him up there not long ago. Anyone in the know?

Don't waste any energy on Maine. RCP has had them blue for a month. It's Iowa in the red column that is most interesting to me.

There are several scenarios under which Bush could eke out a tie or a win with Maine's lone vote on a split ticket.

I'm thinking that if Bush can take Iowa which is a liberal state, he has more wins coming in states that he didn't win in 2000. My hunch is that the race won't be close enough to need a swing state like Maine which can't be counted on all that much.

I say, bring over the rest of Somalia and dump them in Maine. They deserve each other.

It must get lonely, being only conservative in Maine.

The REAL Maine is north and east of the Kennebec River. Those areas to the south and west of the Kennebec are just a suburb of Boston...kind of like Vermont.

How do you propose to keep bear numbers in check without using bait? Spot and stalk?

There are actually several of us conservatives in Maine, but the Portland Press Herald and the Bangor Daily News would have you believe othewrwise.

That was a joke, dude. I have this mental picture of a bunch of guys in lumber jackets with ruff collars and pointy shoes. (A popular sport in Shakespeare's time was to put a bear in a pit and set dogs on him . . . bear baiting.) If you really want to know how to bait a bear (modern times), get a small propane bottle, put on a burner tip, take it to the head of a valley where your animal is, crack it slightly and let the fumes drift downwind. (Note: if the game wardens catch you pulling this stunt they will put you in a pit and set dogs on you.)

It doesn't read as a joke
