THE KERRY DRAFT PLAN
Charles Johnson and other bloggers have tried to call attention to a contradiction in John Kerry's presidential campaign. Though Kerry and other Democrats keep raising the fake spectre of a Bush military draft, it is Kerry who has promised a plan for mandatory national service in the form of a community service requirement for high school students.
His proposal was touted during the Democrat primaries, but you will no longer find evidence of it on Kerry's web site. In Kerry's Vanished Draft Proposal, Johnson provides links to a deleted Kerry web page and its replacement. The former said (all emphasis below has been added):
As part of his 100 day plan to change America, John Kerry will propose a comprehensive service plan that includes requiring mandatory service for high school students and four years of college tuition in exchange for two years of national service.
Though no longer on Kerry's web site, for while the above quote could be seen on a Kerry page archived online at Way Back Machine. If you click on that link, you'll find that the page is no longer available there either. But since the proposal was part of speeches and at least one press release from Kerry, traces of it are found elsewhere on the Internet.

Why aren't the Repubs talking about this in ads, or on the campaign trail?? Sounds like it could have tremendous impact.

When Rep. Charles Rangle (D) was asked last night, on Hannity and Combs, why he didn't vote for his own bill to reinstitute the draft (even after Combs repeated multiple times that "you were just trying to make a statement" implying that it was like sKerry's vote for and against the $87 billion), Rangle kept repeating that "NO" it was not a statement vote, but instead, he voted against it because he believed we were not at war. When Hannity pressed him on the issue, Rangle seemed to be saying that if it was a real war he was dead serious about reinstituting the draft. Now I ask, who is going to restart a draft...Bush or sKerry?

Only in the highly unlikely event of a sKerry Presidency (I had to "hunt and peck" that one - my touch typing instincts refuse to recognize the term :)) will there be a draft
He has already committed himself to raising the military by some 40,000 troops. Just where is he going to find them and how is going to pay for them?
I've seen numerous references that many of the current troops will refuse to re-up if sKerry is elected but will gladly do so for Bush. That kind of support is one of the reasons the 'Rats will go far to discount (or is that non-count) the military absentee ballots.
Fewer reenlistments will require his raising more than his already fictitous 40,000 and I say again, where is he going to get them?
The answer is obvious methinks.
Now that is the thought that should really scare the college (-age) crowd and their parents!
Kerry's plan (can't say i agree or disaggree with it) raises some interesting questions - what about the kids who spurn the requirements - what is the punishment?
Also, what if there is a compromise - what if it is voluntary and with perks? What would those perks be? Voting rights before the age of 21, maybe? Just a thought.
Maybe old Horse_Head is on to something.
I kind'a like the Heinlein model.
Serve on not - it's entirely up to you.
If you serve, you become a citizen, with all the rights and priveleges there-of tyo include the right to vote.
If you choose not to serve, you are no more than a resident - no voting priveleges.
BTW ALL sKerry's DRAFT plan is a BACKDOOR TAX HIKE! States will need to build more college facilities and hire more profs...which means HIKES in state taxes!

Sure is. I can see places like nursing homes firing their professional nurses aides and replacing them with these unpaid or lower paid volunteers. Other places will soon follow suit.
