Cheney Slams Kerry's Hunting Trip

Posted on 10/21/2004 10:43:04 AM PDT by HardHat

Heard it on CNN: (paraphrasing here)

CHENEY: "I understand John Kerry bought some camoflauge gear today, which tells me he doesn't do a lot of goose hunting. Looks like he's got an 'October Disguise' to cover up his anti-gun votes. The 2nd ammendment is not a photo-op."

Good stuff. The crowd was howling.

Well, if you've ever had a Lab you would know kissing and hugging him/her is one of the sweetest feelings. They are such wonderful animals. However, I am sure the Lab ran back to the water and washed kerry's spit off his face.

They turned abortion into a sacrament, remember?

Yes - into a "right". Where's that picture of George Washington with a teardrop?

I missed that Roland Martin episode; I wonder if they will rerun it.

OT, but look at that cute Barney. It reminds me of the interview where somebody asked Bush what kind of man he hoped his daughters married and he said, "One that likes to fish; I'm tired of going with just Barney" or something like that.

SYLVANIA, Ohio (AP) -- Not even John Kerry's goose hunt today is escaping Republican political barbs.

Kerry told reporters this morning he had bagged a goose while hunting in Ohio.

Campaigning later in the Buckeye State, Vice President Dick Cheney laughed about Kerry's hunting trip, saying it clashed with the senator's voting record on gun rights.

Cheney likened Kerry's camouflage jacket to "an October disguise." He told supporters that "the Second Amendment is more than just a photo opportunity."

Kerry continues to deny claims by the Bush-Cheney campaign and the National Rifle Association that he wants to take away guns. However, Kerry has supported a ban on assault-type weapons, and wants background checks at gun shows.

The National Rifle Association has endorsed President Bush.

I see two hunters. One has a gun. The other has a goose call around his neck. I'd say it was pretty much a skeet shoot for Kerry the .......

Well you caught her in a moment of repose, then. She looks very elegant.

Are you training her for anything in particular? I started Shelley in Obedience at 12 weeks - she passed beginner, intermediate and was in the advanced course when our trainer suggested that we should try Agility.

We never looked back. She was a little wild in her first couple of trials, but now she is incredibly focussed and very competent. The Agility training has done a lot to settle her down. She HATED Obedience - "you mean I have to just, like, SIT for five minutes?!?!?!? Whazzup witat?"

I'll be honest. She's my wife's dog. Unfortunately, though, my wife does not play with her like she should, so I do it. That was a rough test, though. It did not take long for her to start following me around the house and terrorizing me--eating my stuff while I wasn't looking. She ate the keys off my laptop, for example. Not good. Fortunately, she seems to have gotten over that for the most part.

They look so handsome with those "hairs of wisdom" on their kind faces.

My girl will be 4 in March, but she has a little bit of a white "beard" on her chin already. I think it's from her plastic dog waterer - her breeder said that a plastic bowl would cause white hairs on her chin, but I would rather she had constant fresh water than a dark chin - and I can't find a stainless steel waterer other than a large outside hose-fed one.

Have you tried "distraction" - i.e. when she starts to chew, hand her a chew toy? That works pretty well for Shelley, but she is not much of a chewer. She will chew rawhide and hard plastic (e.g. plastic retrieving dummies left in her custody) but not leather or anything soft like a stuffed toy.

They do quit chewing after they get out of puppyhood. Unfortunately, SOME Labs stay puppies until they are 2 or 3 years old! I noticed a big change in my dog right around 2 1/4 years - she sudden became much steadier.

**"What does that mean? I love Cheney, but goose hunters use a lot of camouflage." **

I may have got this wrong but from what I read and from the clip I saw on TV he was not saying that goose hunters do not wear camouflage but was inferring that Kerry was not a regular hunter if he had to buy new camouflage gear. In other words if he going on a goose hunt surely he would have bought his normal hunting gear especially if he is trying to portray that he is a regular guy not brand new clothes.

That was my interpretation anyway.
