First Lady Says No Apology Needed

NEW LONDON, N.H. - Laura Bush said Thursday that Teresa Heinz Kerry didn't need to apologize for saying she couldn't remember whether the first lady had ever had "a real job."

"She apologized but she didn't even really need to apologize," Mrs. Bush told reporters at a coffee shop before attending a rally for President Bush (news - web sites). "I know how tough it is and actually I know those trick questions."

USA Today had asked Heinz Kerry, the wife of Democratic candidate John Kerry (news - web sites), if she would be different from Mrs. Bush as a first lady.

"Well, you know, I don't know Laura Bush. But she seems to be calm, and she has a sparkle in her eye, which is good," Heinz Kerry said in the interview published Wednesday. "But I don't know that she's ever had a real job - I mean, since she's been grown up. So her experience and her validation comes from important things, but different things."

Heinz Kerry later said she had forgotten that Mrs. Bush had worked as a teacher and librarian. "There couldn't be a more important job than teaching our children," she said in a statement. "As someone who has been both a full-time mom and full-time in work force, I know we all have valuable experiences that shape who we are. I appreciate and honor Mrs. Bush's service to the country as first lady and am sincerely sorry I had not remembered her important work in the past."

Bush adviser Karen Hughes later criticized Heinz Kerry twice - first for remarks "indicative of an unfortunate mind-set that seeks to divide women based on who works at home and who works outside the home" and later for an apology she called "worse because she left out the very important real job of a mother."

"The lady .. and I do mean LADY .. gives me chills."

I call her Lady Laura. She gives the word "lady" new meaning.

No, read this:

"I know how tough it is and actually I know those trick questions."

A complete smackdown, leaving the reader to assume THK is either too dumb or too mean to not understand the trick questions!

This is more devastating to Kerry than anything his Wife/Sugarmommy said. Compare the class of Mrs. Bush with the screeching insanity of Tahrayzah.

Dubya's made a lot of good decisions in his life, but the smartest thing he ever did was to fall in love with Laura and propose to her.

"I know how tough it is and actually I know those trick questions."

Heh. Sticking the needle in by demonstrating she's more experienced in handling the campaign trail, and much more gracious. It's like an earlier poster said - How does a Southern Lady say "!@#$ You"? "How nice."

for a time, I am not "George Bush"...I am POTUS
for a time, I am not "Laura Bush"...I am The First Lady

These are two people who get it.

She has Karen Hughes to take on Terry Kerry. That's the smart move.

Maybe Laura simply has more class than I do.

I see the first lady and her wannabe as a metaphor for what the US and Europe stand for.

Class is not measured by the size of your wallet!!

Limbaugh just played Charles Krauthammer's comment on FNC last night. That Mrs. Bush has to accept the apology, but he doesn't.

And I'm with him.

Pure class.
One subtlety - Laura called THK a dope without realizing it - "I know how tough it is and actually I know those trick questions."

Trick question? Nah - THK couldn't think before she spoke if she wanted to.

Yep - Laura heaping hot coals on the head of Terrayzah.

BTW, Terrayzah never had a real brain.

-"I know how tough it is and actually I know those trick questions."-

That Laura is very clever, as well as classy. She, in a very ladylike manner, just told everyone that all Mrs. Heinz' so-called EXPERIENCE doesn't prepare her for the job of First Lady!

The only thing that would have made it better is if Laura had said, "Well bless her heart"!
