Jeb Bush Rules Out 2008 White House Run
AP ^ | October 17, 2004 | Yahoo! News

Gov. Jeb Bush said Sunday he will not run for president in 2008 and defended his brother from critics who say the president refuses to acknowledge his mistakes.

The governor also denied a report that he knew of problems with a list of felons to be purged from the state's voter rolls months before it was discarded.

"I'm not going to run for president in 2008. That's not my interest," Bush told ABC's "This Week." "I'm going to finish my term."

Bush said he was not going to think about his next move until after completing his second term in 2006. In an Associated Press survey in August, more than a third of the state's Republican delegates said they favored Bush as the party's presidential candidate in 2008.

Guillinni didn't lose to hillary. He dropped out of the race because he had cancer. A shame too. I would like to have seen him kick her butt.

Jeb Bush is a great governor. But the Dims would scream and holler if he ran for Pres. Though what else is new.

Maybe we can convince Zell to flip. :-)

A Bush Dole or Nixon has been on every GOP ticket since 1952 sans 1964.

Fascinating! Would never have uncovered that...thanks!

What does that say for us Repubs?

It means we know good leaders when we see them... as a friend of Jeb... I have watched him over the past twenty years... from the Codina Group to the Governorship.. he does an excellent job.. full of integrity, responsive, caring and above all -- intelligent!!! I agree that George P. is in the future... give him a few years.. don't forget Barbara Bush's directives... first take care of your financial future and establish your family.. then respond to your civic interest... it is a winning strategy.. I hope I am here to carry the banner for George P....
Everyone.. VOTE!!!! Call everyone.. Vote.. don't get too happy with any poll... more later...

The responsibility is just too great for a woman. I love Condi, but number one, she has said that she does not want the job, and she is more useful in her present position, so give me a good man any day.

It's just as well. Can you imagine what the Democrats would say about his daughter? Besides 2008 is far too soon for a Bush to run.

Well that's certainly bad news. Hope he reconsiders.

He has to say this now. He will run.

I like Frist.. also..America's Mayor is terrific.. but let's get this election in the bag and then immediately move to select a couple "in training"... I am very concerned that we will not get the vote out.. I am in Florida and for the past three days we have had 5 - 6 unsolicited calls from the Democratic party making sure we know were to vote and asking if we need any help... even Bob Graham recorded a message that played in 14 households related to my family... we really need to keep our eye on November,,, and get the vote out!

Frist is about the weakest candidate imaginable. .....a RINO of the first order who caves at the first sign of Democrat pressure. And he makes Al Gore look charismatic by comparison. The guy has no chance.

I like Jeb better than Dubya. He seems more conservative.

Remember that Jeb was the one, originally, more likely to run for Prez; but Dubya amassed such a great organization in Texas - coupled with zillions of bucks from successful fundraising - that he eclipsed him.

Good move. I don't think the country wants a dynasty.

Agreed. I'm concerned that this family has some issues with cracking down on illegal immigration. In a way, it's a compliment to their compassion and Christian ethics. On the other hand, we're being Balkanized. Another president from a different family may see a way to solve the problem.

Tancredo has made way too many enemies in the GOP to even think about the Presidency.

Slap myself! I find myself in agreement with Sink!!

Norm Coleman was the last chairman of the Rebulican National Convention. George Bush was chairman before his nomination. Keep your eye on Norm Coleman. He's next in line.

From that website (about Portman): "Rated A by the NRA, indicating a pro-gun rights voting record."

The NRA are easy graders. He gets a "C" grade from Gun Owners of America.

But Portman looks pretty good. ......better than many of the other choices bandied about.

Rice/Dole 2008

Ack! Condi needs campaign experience before running for the top office. And neither Dole has much impressed me.

Rudy would win NY, NJ, Connecticut and probably PA too. All states that Bush will likely lose this year.

How funny! I remember hearing these same ridiculous, empty promises about how Schwarzenegger would deliver California to Bush.

Sorry...I don't buy the claim. It stinks on ice.

Tell me what states Hillary would win to overcome that?

Spare me the boogeyman scenario. I'll believe Shrillary will run when she runs. Either way, I guarantee you that I'll not be voting for Democrat Lite if that's all the pubbies prop up.

Of course' Frist has flaws, but if Jeb ain't running who do you support?

Tancredo. It's about time the Republican Party shed this "amnesty for illegals" crap.
