Jeb Bush Rules Out 2008 White House Run
AP ^ | October 17, 2004 | Yahoo! News

Posted on 10/17/2004 3:04:17 PM PDT by West Coast Conservative

Gov. Jeb Bush said Sunday he will not run for president in 2008 and defended his brother from critics who say the president refuses to acknowledge his mistakes.

The governor also denied a report that he knew of problems with a list of felons to be purged from the state's voter rolls months before it was discarded.

"I'm not going to run for president in 2008. That's not my interest," Bush told ABC's "This Week." "I'm going to finish my term."

Bush said he was not going to think about his next move until after completing his second term in 2006. In an Associated Press survey in August, more than a third of the state's Republican delegates said they favored Bush as the party's presidential candidate in 2008.

I was more than ready to slap him. His only saving grace was that he interned at the Hanoi Hilton for a few years. That in my opinion outweighs anything else he could say or do apart from bashing Bush of course! But I couldnt stand the fact that he entertained the option of running with Kerry earlier in the year! That tells you how nutty he can be!

GULLIANI 2008

Just what we need. Another RINO.

You want to see how many Conservatives will just stay home on Election Day 2008? Run an anti-Second Amendment and pro-abortion candidate.

And don't bother trotting out Hillary as the Dem candidate. We're all a bit too old to be spooked by the boogeyman here.

McCain; although I'd like to slap him at times, he has been right besides Bush

Nevermind that he was about _this close_ to being Kerry's running mate.

George P. Bush in about 20-30 years.

Not after that jackwit went to Mexico and shrieked bloody murder about our Border Patrol being oh-so-mean to the illegal invaders that Mexico keeps pouring across the border!

It'll be a damned cold day in Hell before any Conservative with a brain votes for that moron.

Time for a fresh breeze to blow through Washington.

And that fresh breeze is Tom Tancredo!

Frist in '08.

Oh, right. The same guy who, as Senate MAJORITY leader, couldn't even make a half-hearted effort to break the Democrat's judicial filibusters. Sure...like anyone's really going to vote for a guy who folds with a full house.

He was only asked this now in an attempt to change a few voters who would be offended by a political dynasty away from his brother. I too hope when the time is ripe, he will give running for President a careful consideration.

It could be Owens. I would put odds on a number of GOP governors such as Mark Sanford and Tim Pawlenty. The names being bandied about now, Chuck Hagel, George Pataki, Rudy, Frist, none of them particularly excite me. (I like Rudy, but he's too socially liberal, and Frist...good man but not a good speaker)

Tancredo has made way too many enemies in the GOP to even think about the Presidency.

That tells me he's doing something right. I'm personally sick of all these "big tent" Democrat-Lite pubbies who think that the way to win is to become as Liberal as the Democrats.

he's coming. this board is going to be full of unhappy campers when he does - but they have some incorrect impressions of Rudy; you have to do certain things as mayor of NYC that won't carry over to the presidency.

our party stands for nothing if we allow Hillary to walk into the white house in 2008 because we nomininate some idealogue with no star power. maybe a guy like Owens can gel into a good candidate, not sure, haven't seen enough of him yet. but our party hasn't groomed anyone for 2008.

Rudy would win NY, NJ, Connecticut and probably PA too. All states that Bush will likely lose this year.

Tell me what states Hillary would win to overcome that?
