The following statement from John O'Neil, member of Swift Boat Veterans and POW's for Truth, concerns a news segment that aired on October 14th on ABC's Nightline with Ted Koppel."While I have a tremendous amount of respect for Ted Koppel and ABC News I was appalled to learn that ABC News would go to the lengths of traveling to Vietnam to interview three Viet Cong communists in yet a third attempt by ABC to corroborate John Kerry's version of the events that took place on February 28th, 1969.
"I would only ask the American people: 'Who do you trust more, three members of a communist regime that tortured and killed our American troops or a group of more than 280 highly decorated American veterans, who proudly served their country and are now responsible members of their respective communities.
"The number of veterans who support John Kerry's accounts of his military service would not fill one Swift Boat. But instead of sitting down to interview some of the 280 plus members of our Swift Boat organization, ABC News chose to travel to Vietnam taking extraordinary and highly suspect steps to find someone to corroborate John Kerry's story.
"ABC News Nightline has now dedicated three seperate programs to this one incident while ignoring John Kerry's now discredited Senate testimony that he spent Christmas in Cambodia, his receiving a purple heart after all three of the officers required to approve such an issuance rejected his application, or his constantly changing account of the circumstances surrounding his remaining medal, a bronze star.
"Further, one has to wonder why ABC News will not address the serious questions as to why John Kerry only received an honorable discharge through the act of then President Carter, seven years after his discharge, and had to have all of his military citations reissued, on the same day, when he became a United States Senator in 1985. And, finally, why has Nightline found it of no interest to permit any POWs to come on their program to explain why they believe John Kerry betrayed their nation, caused them to be incarcerated for an additional two years and caused them tremendous additional hardship and suffering."
BTTT!!
sKerry is a fraud....
The Soros connection "Remember that infamous Oct. 8 memo from ABC News
Wasn't there recently a chart showing coverage of ABC, CNN, FOX, etc, which showed pro-Kerry bias far more favorable with ABC than even CBS, and anti-Bush bias extraordinarily exaggerated for ABC, compared to the rest? I forget the thread.
You're absolutely correct! Kerry is a hero to the Vietnamese and honored in their War Mueum. Of course they know who he is!
There were several threads on it, if you're interested. The longest is JOHN O'NEILL ON NIGHTLINE TONIGHT (Dems are e-mailing Ted Koppel to stop it!).
Thank you for posting that transcript of last nights Ted Koppel hatchet-job.
God bless John O'Neill and all the Swift Vets and POW Vets for having the courage to fight for this country in the first place and for having the courage to stand up to that dishonest traitor John Kerry 30-some years later.
Ted Koppel was never more transparently in the tank for the Kerry mythology as he was last night.. at least by reading the transcript. He represents everything that is evil in the MSM... pure, partisan bias and blatant anti-patriotic hatred that insists on continuing to masquerade as "neutral" impartial "truth seeking".
O'neill did a great job a last night and Koppel comes off as a malignant jerk. Which is what he is.
What a tortured, twisted pretzel Ted Koppel made of himself - all to cover ABC's inexcusable bias.
Kerry's home movie doesn't show the battle continuing. It shows him calmly walking out of the "jungle" after shooting the whoever.
Good point, but I think the 15 Oct date was simply arbitrary on his part. No rationale was provided that I saw, other than the implication that it be before 2 Nov.
Well this is exactly what I was posting yesterday. Having been in Vietnam for many many months over the last few years, I concur with O'Neill that the information collected from these alleged "VC vets" is highly suspect on the face of it.
Hanoi is not stupid about ABC News, they're not oblivious to what Nightline is. ABC News is not going down to the Delta unescorted to interview locals about the war, not in Vietnam. They went with at least one Communist Party overseer and probably an authorized CP translator. That's how Vietnam handles Western news organizations.
Reading through this interview, Koppel is being extremely disingenuous to evade the issue about the veracity of his "VC" sources.
And if Koppel doesn't know what would possibly motivate a "VC" in South Vietnam to lie to a reporter, well here's a clue: in Vietnam, a $20 U.S. greenback will buy you any story you could possibly want.
Funny, sad, and true. I remember saying to Hubby that I had always thought ABC was the worst of the lot. Dan Rather proved me wrong. I guess ABC is working hard to regain the media scum crown.
Ted Floppel and the folks at NightLie are up to their old tricks again!
Koppel would like to bamboozle the American public into thinking these villagers are completely isolated from the outside world.
Nonsense. Somewhere in that village is a TV, and Hanoi is very good about broadcasting international news (my wife's relatives even knew about the DC snipers).
They know who Kerry is. And they know he was in Vietnam.
What possible reason can anyone have to respect Ted Koppel and ABC News?
The demeaning of America's morale... Why can't people see it's "an inside job?"
Can you cite a source for this? I have not heard this before about Kerry's brother. If he was truly the recipient of a quid pro quo contract, this needs to be shouted far and wide.
My heart started racing when I read...uh, ARGGHHH! ARGGHHHH!
Plonk! ;^)
