RON REAGAN: Why is Lynne Cheney so ashamed of her gay daughter?
Scarborough Country ^ | Oct. 13, 2004 | Ronnie Reagan

Ron Reagan: Why is Lynne Cheney so ashamed of her gay daughter—and shame on the conservatives and shame on Scarborough for trying to spin this against the Democrats because she is a gay woman and there‘s nothing wrong with that. Being a gay person, being a lesbian, is not a pejorative and there was nothing wrong with Kerry saying that. Maybe Lynne Cheney is a bad parent.

I think we're seeing a definite cultural difference between the two sides here, especially in the more committed and radical of the Democrats - the latter seem not to see why this is so offensive and are continuing to hammer at it despite the clear damage it's doing them. Bad enough to have brought it up in the first place, but to compound the offense by claiming that Lynn Cheney is ashamed of her daughter or is a bad parent is incomprehensible unless one takes into account the cultural factor.

They really, really do believe that the "personal is the political," and that implies that anything goes with respect to the opponents' - the "enemies'" in every real sense - families. This is not a friendly or loyal opposition, it is pure hatred and a conviction that politics is war to the knife.

There was a time not so very long ago when the two opponents in the debate would shake hands, refer to one another as "esteemed" or "honorable" opponent and mean it. They don't even pretend anymore, and it's a real loss to the democratic process.

Actually, I'm surprised that little ron wanted to go there. Little ron is pretty much a testament to bad parenting (and that's the only negative thing I've ever said about Ronald Maximus.)

I hate little Ronnie as much as you guys, but that quote is from Kathy Griffin, not RPR. The transcript is wrong.

"That wasn't the question. The question was is being gay a choice. Only elitist, arrogant leftists would assume they could speak with authority on the intimate details and emotional landscapes of another person. It's a complete violation of her as an individual."

Wow! That is the greatest statement on this subject that I've seen.

BOB SCHIEFFER: Mr President, the next question is to you. Obesity and lack of physical excercise is a growing problem in this country. You have long been an advocate for regular routine excercise and healthy eating. What do you see as the biggest problem Americans have in overcoming obesity?

PRESIDENT BUSH: Thank you for asking that, Bob. Obesity in American is a major problem for many folks. And its an issue that deserves attention. For instance, look at Elizabeth Edwards, the wife of my opponent's running mate ...

That's exactly what I was thinking when the Breck Butt-boy Edward's sow made the comments about the Cheney's being ashamed of their daughter. I think maybe Mrs. Edwards needs a hug, a glass of Yoo-Hoo and a Ding Dong...

They aren`t "ashamed" of her, she is not a public figure. It`s not about shame, it`s about privacy. For Weasley Clark to assert that she`s a public figure and therefore "fair game" is reprehensible. Don`t piss off the Pajamahadeen, Weasley, they can make life interesting for you.

"You're here and queer. Can we go on with our lives now?"

I agree. What could be more boring than a gay person's gayness? I always want to say, "Okay you're here and you're queer but are you bragging or complaining?" I don't care about anyone's sexuality and I don't want to hear about it.

Maybe Ron Reagan needs to shut up and mind his own business. How cruel to question whether or not someone is a good parent. As if he knows anything about the Cheneys!

Ron is retarded and did not comprehend what Lynne Cheney said or he is most likely trying to miscontrue it.

Typical low-life spin.

After reading other responses on this thread, and having watched the exchange live, I'm virtually certain that the quote from the transcript posted by MSNBC and attributed to Ron Reagan, (and which is the genesis for this thread) was in fact said by Kathy Griffin.

Reading the transcript, it makes no sense if REAGAN was speaking to then transcribe a new quote from REAGAN asking for a response from Mike Barnicle.

Can you edit in some way to correct the thread?
