Beat me to it. Clanton (sissy) said in relation to Sinclair that they "had better hope we don't win". That was a direct threat. That boy should have worn his mint flavored shoes. He blew it Big Time! And they way he talked so nasty about the Sinclair rep. (can't remember his name) was apalling.

The exact same words came to my mind...Algore is so quick to throw the term "brown shirts" around. But the only ones I see that want to restrict free speech and ban books and movies are the Dems.

Never threaten people who buy ink (or the modern equivelent)by the barrel.
This is a real mistake, now to protect themselves Sinclair has to run with it.

Chad's (both of his names are very appropriate for what comes out of his mounth) threatening Sinclair if Kerry is elected is chilling.
Why can't they see this has nothing to do with President Bush and everything to do with John Kerry's record. Why is Kerry afraid to address this? - he's such a skilled debater!

I just saw that on Fox. Unbelievable that someone in the Kerry campaign would be so stupid to threaten a broadcast network. Truly unbelievable. I am still in shock.

Chad also said Sinclair is a VAST broadcast network, when they actually cover about 25% of the U.S. Go figure.

All the networks are in a full-fledged PRO-Kerry crusade but one anti-Kerry moment is just too much to bear. Pathetic.

"They better hope we don't get elected."

And so should the American people, Mr. Communist.

MCCAIN LETTER TO SINCLAIR BROADCAST ON PREEMPTION OF NIGHTLINE
For Immediate Release
Friday, Apr 30, 2004

U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) issued the following letter today to Mr. David Smith, President and CEO of Sinclair Broadcast Group, in response to the preemption of this evening’s Nightline program:

I write to strongly protest your decision to instruct Sinclair’s ABC affiliates to preempt this evening’s Nightline program. I find deeply offensive Sinclair’s objection to Nightline’s intention to broadcast the names and photographs of Americans who gave their lives in service to our country in Iraq.

I supported the President’s decision to go to war in Iraq, and remain a strong supporter of that decision. But every American has a responsibility to understand fully the terrible costs of war and the extraordinary sacrifices it requires of those brave men and women who volunteer to defend the rest of us; lest we ever forget or grow insensitive to how grave a decision it is for our government to order Americans into combat. It is a solemn responsibility of elected officials to accept responsibility for our decision and its consequences, and, with those who disseminate the news, to ensure that Americans are fully informed of those consequences.

There is no valid reason for Sinclair to shirk its responsibility in what I assume is a very misguided attempt to prevent your viewers from completely appreciating the extraordinary sacrifices made on their behalf by Americans serving in Iraq. War is an awful, but sometimes necessary business. Your decision to deny your viewers an opportunity to be reminded of war’s terrible costs, in all their heartbreaking detail, is a gross disservice to the public, and to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. It is, in short, sir, unpatriotic. I hope it meets with the public opprobrium it most certainly deserves.

I saw it and it was totally unbelievable.

A few moments before Linda Vester started to interview Chad Clanton she mentioned that Sinclair may have difficulty in getting its licenses renewed if Kerry wins. I was appalled by her comment, because it seemed like a cheap shot with no evidence to back it up. Then, I thought that perhaps this is the reason why Fox supposedly sent a memorandum to its on-air staff reminding them to be fair.

Then, Clanton got on and said what you quoted him as saying (I thought he said "they'd better hope we don't win," but I may have mis-remembered it).

Just when I thought this campaign couldn't get any lower, we have a senior advisor to the Kerry campaign making on-air threats to a licensed media company.

Then, this story is followed by a story on the violent attacks on Bush campaign offices around the country. To my knowledge, the comments by the Kerry campaign on this campaign of intimidation have been as vocal as the comments of the worldwide Muslim community condemning the attacks of September 11. With their silence, they become complicit.

I feel like the Democrats of 2004 are adopting the brown-shirt tactics of 1932 Germany.

From a duplicate thread:

Linda Vester is currentlly interviewing Chad Clanton, described as a 'senior Kerry campaign advisor.'

Discussing the plans of the Sinclair broadcasting group to air "Stolen Honor," the documentary about Kerry's Vietnam war service, Clanton stated:

"They [Sinclair] better hope that we're not elected."

Vester immediately asked if that was intended as a threat to Sinclair that a Kerry administration would not renew their broadcast licenses. Clanton tried to back off, but the threat was unmistakable.

These people are thugs.
