Mt. St. Helens - ready to erupt, 10/11, 10:30 PM PDT

Posted on 10/11/2004 10:36:00 PM PDT by djf

Infrared cameras surveying Mt. St. Helens have revealed a large uplifting of new magma into the crater floor. For all intents and purposes, it is now erupting. Radar may reveal any ash clouds that come out, the IR video on the local channel is quite spectacular.

Some are less than 100 years. Mt. Lassen in northern CA last blew about 1924.

"was told by a Washington resident that only happens in Hawaii!"

"ROTFLMAO!!! What a maroooooon! Your source has apparently never bothered to look at the lava flows that are literally everywhere in the Pacific Northwest. Some of them are only a few thousand years old."

APE CAVE on the slopes of St Helens is a Lava Tube. And you can find are Lava Beds from acient eruptions in Washington, Oreagon and California. The one in Bend Or. is amazing.

I remember from Forestry class (1976) being told about the dangers of stepping off the trails in the St Helens area because of holes left where old trees once stood that were instantly incinerated during the last eruption. Was told people often are injured in these natural traps that are covered with several hundred years of forest floor.

The one in Bend Or. is amazing.

My personal favorite is the huge lava field on top of McKenzie Pass in Central Oregon. Goes on for miles and miles....

A bit odd, nothing shows up on any of the USGS earthquake maps.

Recent Earthquake Activity in the USA

NOTE: - These maps do not currently show Mount St. Helens events. The events are occurring so frequently that they cannot be accurately located by automatic processing software.

I would love to hear an explanation of the weird sinusoidal patterns showing up on the webicorders.

That looks a lot like the drum solo from "In a Gadda Da Vida"...

I actually heard the original title for the song was "In the Garden of Eden" but they were so stoned when they cut it, they slurred the words and left it that way.

I think it would be the coolest thing if Mt. Saint Helens just had one of those eruptions where it wasn't massive explosions, but simply a huge lava flow that would eventually fill up the dome and rebuild the top of missing portion of the mountain...The lava flow could be an educational tool for all of us at the mighty forces of nature...

G'day to you, maytheforcebewithyou, and welcome aboard, I'm a relative newcomer to this forum, but have found it to be the only site in the states, where you can be assured of the truth and give no quarter to lies and distortion.

I think I can speak for the majority of the posters here on FR, that we have found Australia to be a very important friend of America and we don't underestimate that importance.

Bravo, to your PM and God Bless.

I dream the same thing, and I'm only 36. It's been my most recurring nightmare since my mid-twenties. I dream that I'm standing in front of the bathroom mirror and to my horror, just start spitting out my teeth!

I did a google search on it a while ago and it actually seems to be a pretty common dream. :)
