Infrared cameras surveying Mt. St. Helens have revealed a large uplifting of new magma into the crater floor. For all intents and purposes, it is now erupting. Radar may reveal any ash clouds that come out, the IR video on the local channel is quite spectacular.
Welcome aboard!! It's a pleasure to read your post! You folks in Australia have been and are wonderful friends to us here in America! God Bless!
That's interesting djf - but are you absolutely sure it's unmanned - where's Geraldo :o). Rander7 - thank you for your kind words.

If Geraldo was onboard, we could call it a "pilotless drone", or a "clueless drone", but in all fairness we can't call it "unmanned".
Yup were definitely prolly screwed although I sheepishly admit I never had an impact on the .....say....population or numbers of them.

Oh come-on he's lovely, and most entertaining....and he's the spitting image of my Brother-In Law's best friend - so there. Every time we see him we say - "Look there goes Robbo"....and they have the same personality - extraordinary really.
Cheers.
LOVE the B's!!!
Welcome to Free Republic!
"Showponies" - Good description! Let's hope 'real' people are in vogue to stay!
Darn! I was gonna say that!
Daylight is just starting to show on the volcanocam. Interestingly, as the picture loads, you can see a red/white spot right in the middle, where the dome and activity is.
Well, until KGW pings me, I am not really going to spend a lot of time looking...but they have been tracking this story well, seeing that they are in Portland.
Is it soup yet?
Just heard on MSNBC that officials are going to fly a small data gathering drone around in the crater. Sun's coming up.
Amazing pre-eruption panoramic photo of St. Helens crater. What a view. If you squint you can almost see my house.

What's the drone going to look for, did they mention?
How's the seismic activity?
KING 5 had one of those USGS guys with the little round John Lennon Glasses and three days of beard growth on who said this is due to the fact that the magma is near the surface now. What causes the seismic activity is the gas and rocks the magma pushes up. It also could mean that the eruption is very close.
ROTFLMAO!!! What a maroooooon! Your source has apparently never bothered to look at the lava flows that are literally everywhere in the Pacific Northwest. Some of them are only a few thousand years old.
Welcome to FR, Mate!
