Favorite son Rep. Richard Gephardt was surrounded nearly everywhere he went by U.S. senators and lawmakers, reporters and former staffers, all wanting to wish him well. A high point of his popularity was evidenced after the debate when ABC newsman and debate moderator Charles Gibson said to Gephardt in a private moment: "It should have been you up there - things would have been different."

Sounds like if it was Gephardt, He would have given it to Bush and given Gephardt a softball HR derby.
Sorta like Lehrer did for Kerry.
If you don't use original titles, it raises the risk of duplicates.
Charles Gibson definitely is pro-Democratic. As a Democrat operative, Gibson must be mad that the Dems nominated Kerry instead of Gephardt. Gephardt however was also a bad candidate. Lieberman would have been a threat to Bush because of his mainstream views; however, being Jewish would have hindered in the South. So, the radical Dems had to either nominate wacko Howard Dean or Flipper Kerry. And in 2008 we'll face Lady McBeth Hillary, you'll see but McCain-Rice will beat the crap out of her.
I listened to one of the undecided from the debate on FoxNews this morning and he truly sounded like someone lost in a forest shouting for directions.
Let's hope these folks never run a candidate for president.
The "I dunno" Candidate.
I thought Gibson was very fair on Friday regardless of his personal leaning.
I will never ever vote for McCain.
McCain or Hillary? I sure hope there is a good 3rd party choice.
McCain? Why are we gonna run a Rino in 2008?
Try again.
I'm sure the guy is biased, but chatter at a party is not where I'd look for "evidence".
Has anyone analyzed the "added questions" that Charlie Gibson asked?
They seemed to be ones to help Kerry and give him extra time on things he needed help with. He never asked Bush one except the one that he was trying to ask about recruitments (an anti-Bush question). I loved the Bush ignored the guy and answered anyway.
I've found these are the tricks Kerry uses:
1) He makes sure that Bush is watching him while he answered his questions. He always tilted towards Bush for almost every question except when the person asking was on his left, which would have been stupid even for Kerry to ignore.
2) He gets his big zingers in at the last 30 second responses (when Bush can no longer be asked for a response). Bush needs to do more of this himself. Leave the big hanging items hanging.
3) Charlie should have told Kerry he needs to answer the CURRENT question and stop going back to previous questions to add more content. Kerry just can't follow the rules, can he?

This was not breaking news
Don't forget the black vote. Being Jewish would've hindered that, too.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!.....
FMCDH(BITS)
I agree. If it takes a St. Louis Post-Dispatch article to demonstrate bias, then Gibson did a good job during the debate, when it counts!
So you thought the "3 mistakes you made" question was a FAIR one to ask bush? I don't remember kerrys answer, but i don't believe he answered that question, just piled on his madeup "Bush mistakes"! Correct me if I'm wrong...
No matter what Charlie thinks of Gephart, the questions in the debate were fair and it was a well run event. Actually, I've been impressed with the way both debates have been handled. There is no stupid audience outbursts and I think both candidates have gotten into some more than usual detail.
Thank you. First post. I'll try to do better next time.
I think this incident illustrates that 1) Gibson knows Kerry is a phoney 2) Gibson knows Kerry is a jerk - I think this played out on Gibson staging a much more even-handed debate last Friday
