I don't think we will ever understand John McCain. The most charitable view I can come up with is that perhaps he thinks that one should never denigrate a fellow soldier EVER, even tho he is despicable.....that's probably naive to say the least....but its so hard to speak ill of a fellow repub....you know RR's 11th commandment....

I heard Col. Hackworth (whom, I realize, doesn't win any medals on this website) say during a talk show interview, in answer to the *exact* question that you're asking, that "John McCain has been slammed up against the wall one too many times".

Bet the North Vietnamese took 8mm pictures of McLaim ratting out his buddies thats what puts him very close to sKerry in some views.. like McLaim-Feingold... if Hillary has those Movies he's in her pocket..

pondered this too - but maybe something to do with the much later trip that he went on with Kerry - as Senators - to Vietnam on a POW trip. There has been much hint at scandal on kerrys part over that trip - I wonder
I honestly believe that McCain was brainwashed while a POW. It wouldn't even surprise me if they did some "programming" for future (today) use.
Either that, or he is just stark raving mad - also related to his POW days....
