Australian Election
vanity | 9th October 2004 | naturalman1975

I hesitate to suggest this, as I am fairly new around here, but I have noticed that there is quite a lot of interest in the Australian eleciton, so I thought I would make an offer here. I will be watching the election coverage and if people are interested, as the coverage proceeds, I can post updates in this thread, so people can follow what is happening in Australia.

Just an offer. Coverage starts in 15 minutes.

Oh and if any other Aussies want to post updates as well, of course, I wouldn't object. It's just I can see interest.

The thing is - the Greens have done really well. He doesn't need to spin things - they've genuinely come out of this election with a significant boost.

It just shows - he can't be satisfied with good news. He needs to try and spin it into great news.

Good point. I remember how Terry McAwful was trying to spin the recall here in California (against a Democrat Governor) as, get this, 'bad news for Bush'. Why? Well, bad news for incumbents because Davis was an incumbent. Freaken hilarious.

I turned on BBC World News to see what that had to say about it....THEY ARE SO DEPRESSED!!! LOL!!! They made snide remarks about how this just goes to show, that even though the liberal party is part of the coalition, they can still win. DOOM AND GLOOM! I say "WAY TO GO AUSTRAILIA, WE ARE VERY HAPPY FOR YOU!!!!"

OK - well, now you Yanks need to make sure Bush wins - because we don't want to have to deal with Kerry either!

It is actually "because of Iraq" but of course the folks at the BBC can't face this truth. New Zealand's Richard Prebble warned many weeks ago that Labor's foreign policy platform could be their undoing.

Believe me, the idea of Kerry getting near the reins of power here in the US makes many a FReeper shudder with fear. That man is truly Unfit for Command. We're hoping that the Howard win over there helps Bush build a little momentum. He can tell the American people that the Australians stand behind us and reelected their leader who helped prosecute the War in Iraq too.

I am sure Kerry is deeply saddened.

Congrats again on keeping your Conservative goverment in the Land Down Under. Cheers.

Kerry should be deeply saddened. After all, he sent his sister over there to swing the election there. Too bad for him!

Actually San Diego has that sort of government. Our mayor is little more than one extra vote on the City Counsel.

Also, Oakland used to have that kind of government as well. That is, until Jerry Brown got through a referendum (approved by the voters) that gave the mayor a lot more power then the city council. Guess Oakland was such a basket case, might as well give Jerry the power.

Its good news. Aussies are among the friendliest people you could know. My late friend was one of them - born in Sydney and buried in Miami. I'm looking forward to paying my respects one day.

We have such a measure on our ballot this November election. I hope it passes. We've been held hostage by unelected "city manglers" for too long.
