I hesitate to suggest this, as I am fairly new around here, but I have noticed that there is quite a lot of interest in the Australian eleciton, so I thought I would make an offer here. I will be watching the election coverage and if people are interested, as the coverage proceeds, I can post updates in this thread, so people can follow what is happening in Australia.
Just an offer. Coverage starts in 15 minutes.
Oh and if any other Aussies want to post updates as well, of course, I wouldn't object. It's just I can see interest.

And Australian (and New Zealand as well) cities' mayors are apples and oranges when compared with US cities' mayors. Sure, he sits up and rolls the ball for the day, but unlike US cities' mayors he doesn't command police force, education, firefighting, and even "social welfare". All city councillors are as powerful as him in council meetings.
Labor party representative on ABC seems to have given up - now looking for positives in winning a few new seats, but doesn't seem to think they can win. Not conceding yet, but close.

Thanks for these AEC updates, Dundee.
So, the likely prediction is, that the colalition is going to get 76 seats exactly? That's good. Though I hope they can pull a few more seats.
That 76 is a bit old now - new graphic on TV is predicting 85.
I'm not infront of a TV, what are the talking heads saying about how things are shaping up?
Basically, they are pretty sure it's Coalition victory, they're just not sure how big it is.
85? Holy Crap! That sounds like a landslide!
BTW, checked over at DU...funny how this election isn't in the Breaking News. Hmmmmm.
'They didn't really win, because they didn't win by a bigger margin!'
Pathetic.

Bob Brown sure does sound a lot like Terry McAwful. Trying to spin crap into gold.
South Australia, which was expected to be strongly Labor is split evenly between Coalition and Labor.
AUSTRALIAN ELECTIONS: TASMANIA
9.10.2004. 19:52:11
Labor has conceded defeat in the Tasmanian seats of Bass and Braddon.
Sitting member for Bass Michelle O'Byrne conceded to her Liberal Party rival Michael Ferguson, after suffering a swing of 5.4 percent.
With almost 80 percent of votes counted, Ms O'Byrne trailed Mr Ferguson by more than 4,000 votes.
Sitting member for the key marginal seat of Braddon Sid Sidebottom had a 7.44 percent swing against him.
Asked if he conceded his seat, Mr Sidebottom said: "Yes, I'm extremely disappointed," speaking on ABC radio.
He said Labor leader Mark Latham did not make enough of an effort to sell his policy on saving Tasmania's forests in Braddon.
"In the end my electorate has made a decision about certain things and I have to wear it," said Mr Sidebottom.
Logging is a key issue in the two seats in Tasmania's north.
However it appears Labor has retained Denison, Franklin and Lyons.
Greens leader Bob Brown said his party is polling between 7 percent in Braddon and 17 percent in Denison, and these figures will translate into a strong showing for the Greens in the Senate.
"This is a big vote for the forests in Tasmania," said Mr Brown.
"I'd be happy if we picked up three Senate seats tonight."
