Bob Brown (Leader of the Greens) is claiming the Liberal policies didn't work in Tasmania, because they only gained two seats, rather than three!

'They didn't really win, because they didn't win by a bigger margin!'

Pathetic.

AUSTRALIAN ELECTIONS: TASMANIA
9.10.2004. 19:52:11

Labor has conceded defeat in the Tasmanian seats of Bass and Braddon.

Sitting member for Bass Michelle O'Byrne conceded to her Liberal Party rival Michael Ferguson, after suffering a swing of 5.4 percent.

With almost 80 percent of votes counted, Ms O'Byrne trailed Mr Ferguson by more than 4,000 votes.

Sitting member for the key marginal seat of Braddon Sid Sidebottom had a 7.44 percent swing against him.

Asked if he conceded his seat, Mr Sidebottom said: "Yes, I'm extremely disappointed," speaking on ABC radio.

He said Labor leader Mark Latham did not make enough of an effort to sell his policy on saving Tasmania's forests in Braddon.

"In the end my electorate has made a decision about certain things and I have to wear it," said Mr Sidebottom.

Logging is a key issue in the two seats in Tasmania's north.

However it appears Labor has retained Denison, Franklin and Lyons.

Greens leader Bob Brown said his party is polling between 7 percent in Braddon and 17 percent in Denison, and these figures will translate into a strong showing for the Greens in the Senate.

"This is a big vote for the forests in Tasmania," said Mr Brown.

"I'd be happy if we picked up three Senate seats tonight."

Remember that line of thinking because you are going to hear the same thing from the MSM when Kerry and the DNC get trounced on Nov.2
