Australian Election
vanity | 9th October 2004 | naturalman1975

I hesitate to suggest this, as I am fairly new around here, but I have noticed that there is quite a lot of interest in the Australian eleciton, so I thought I would make an offer here. I will be watching the election coverage and if people are interested, as the coverage proceeds, I can post updates in this thread, so people can follow what is happening in Australia.

Just an offer. Coverage starts in 15 minutes.

Oh and if any other Aussies want to post updates as well, of course, I wouldn't object. It's just I can see interest.

Kim Beazley, former Labor leader, and Shadow Defence Minister is more or less conceding defeat, but claiming that it isn't that bad because they haven't lost the 25 seats their polls predicted they would lose last week.

Bob Brown (Leader of the Greens) is claiming the Liberal policies didn't work in Tasmania, because they only gained two seats, rather than three! 'They didn't really win, because they didn't win by a bigger margin!' Pathetic.

Remember that line of thinking because you are going to hear the same thing from the MSM when Kerry and the DNC get trounced on Nov.2

"I am sure Kerry is deeply saddened."

You bet he's saddened. Can you imagine if he were elected [as unlikely as that is] and he had to face a man who's country and personal efforts he has publicly denounced as ineffective allies?

Thanks to all Down Under who are sharing the burden of keeping the world safe!

22 seat Majority, not gain.

His he speaking about internal polls? Because according the MSM polls it was suppose to be either a labor win or a very close race.

The MSM operates in both nations exactly the same.

Looks like his sister's meddling in Australia's election backfired. Its good to keep our friends around. The Aussies were part of the war because they want to help; we didn't push or coerce them into joining us. We have a broad coalition in Iraq but for some reason its "illegitimate" to the Democrats. That's no way to treat friends.

I have family in Australia. Very nice people. They come over to visit sometimes.

Heck, for a time, my father lived in Australia for boarding school (Melbourne to be exact). Along with my uncles. From what I understand, he had some great memories over there. If it wasn't so hard for him to get an Australian citizen ship, my family could've been Australian! And, while I'm proud of being an American, given the many wonderful things I hear about Australia and its people, I wouldn't have mind if fate took a different path for me.

8 seat gain looks more likely - 10 seats is certainly on the cards.

Were Australians ticked that Diana Kerry was over there trying to mess with their election?

We will be most pleased to oblige:)

I think our media is like some of yours,I've been reading the Sydney Morning Herald and other papers, and from their coverage and letters to the the editor I would never have dreamed that the Coalition would win. I hope there's a moral here for our election!
