He has effectively excommunicated himself under Church law. There need not be a formal pronouncement. That' why he goes to church at schismatic "c"atholic churches where fallen-away priests don't withhold communion.
Under well-established Church law, taking communion when you have been told that your moral choices are inconsistent with the sacrament is considered a grave sin, a sacrilege, that can imperil your mortal soul because you have effectively giving God the finger.

What a slimy "last question". Handled well by Bush though, and Kerry's back on the Deaniac "rush to war" babbling. Good way to close since Bush was much stronger on foreign policy than domestic.
