Heads up: Great post-debate coverage on MSNBC - pundits trashing Edwards...
It's garbage. Cheney was saying that if we win in Iraq we will deal a deadly blow to the base of terror that hit us on 9-11.
Is that really controversial? Of course, if we win in Iraq, the terrorists will lose. That's why they are fighting so hard
there. They don't want a representative goverment in the heart of the mideast.
The MSM is really being dishonest with this. No surprise!!
Wow. That says it all.
He fumbled his words a NUMBER of times and couldn't not mention Kerry not once after being told specifically not to but TWICE and giggled it away like a nervous child hoping he didn't get caught. I loved his flub about "other worlds"... LOL
How about showing Cheney's next sentence?!!?
VICE PRES. CHENEY: Tim, we can do what we have to do to prevail in this conflict. Failures not an option. And go back again and think about whats involved here. This is not just about Iraq or just about the difficulties we might encounter in any one part of the country in terms of restoring security and stability. This is about a continuing operation on the war on terror. And its very, very important we get it right. If were successful in Iraq, if we can stand up a good representative government in Iraq, that secures the region so that it never again becomes a threat to its neighbors or to the United States, so its not pursuing weapons of mass destruction, so that its not a safe haven for terrorists, now we will have struck a major blow right at the heart of the base, if you will, the geographic base of the terrorists who have had us under assault now for many years, but most especially on 9/11. They understand whats at stake here. Thats one of the reasons theyre putting up as much of a struggle as they have, is because they know if we succeed here, that thats going to strike a major blow at their capabilities.
MR. RUSSERT: So the resistance in Iraq is coming from those who were responsible for 9/11?
VICE PRES. CHENEY: No, I was careful not to say that.
Plus, read the rest of the transcript.
And Howlin, the point is that there is a connection to the war on terror... and that is what Cheney was saying. But to say that he is claiming that IRAQ or SADAAM was responsible for 9/11 WAS NOT WHAT HE HAS EVER DONE.
I was talking about RR Jr. But I also think the same about Edwards.
Gawd almight, I do SO love FR..........LOL!
Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
Great catch as usual! Is that from Tivo or did you get it from NBC?
The are twisting and stretching as hard as they can to say that Cheney "lied" about something.
He didn't... If you want to argue that is long winded answer wasn't articulate enough, fine. But let's be just slightly intellectually honest here.
Ron Reagan = President Reagan should have stuck to adopting his kids.
Put that up in a separate thread with DEBUNKING EDWARDS DEBATE POINT REGARDING IRAQ and 9-11, or something like that and I'll ping the hell out of that, will you?
Who IS that idiot woman?
I actually think the resistance in some part, a significant part, is the same people that attacked us on 9-11. Militant Sunni terrorists from the Mideast and North Africa. They are all going in and linking up with the people in the Sunni triangle and they are fighting for radical Sunni Islam.
Feel free to post it...
You know more pings then me! (and are a good source here at FR). I just want the information out there.
FReeper pajamahadeen rules the roost!
"Ron Reagan = President Reagan should have stuck to adopting his kids."
Seriously, Mike is so much better than he is. But I was pleased to see that the girly boy gave the debate to Cheney. It was telling that he said Cheney reminded him of a Dad. He reminded him of his Dad.
To understand Prescott Reagan you have to realize that he knows he is a worm compared to his father. That's why he is such a bitter blade.
Therein lies the beauty of fighting them over there rather than on our own turf.
Melilnda Hildenburger of Newsweek.
did you see the "truth squad" segment by Brian Williams? They showed the Cheney interview on Meet the Press where he said (roughly, based on my memory): Iraq was a center of terrorism for a long time, that we'd been under attack for a long time, especially since 9/11.
That Cheney used Iraq and 9/11 in the same paragraph is not saying that he said Iraq was responsible for 9/11. Guess that's nuance they don't like.
