I can remember being a kid in my room listening to a cassette of his material I borrowed from a friend. Some of those bits still stick out after all these years:
When I was a little boy I got lost in a park and wandered up to a cop. I asked the officer if he thought we could find my parents. He said, "I don't know, kid. There's a lot of places they can hide."
And another:
My son, he never listens. The other day he was giving me a hard time so I said to him, "Hey, someday you'll have kids of your own!" He said, "Yeah? So will you!"
Goodbye, Rodney. Hope you're making 'em laugh in the great hereafter.

When someone asked him about how long he would be in the hospital after the operation, Rodney said: "If things go right, I'll be there about a week, and if things don't go right, I'll be there about an hour and a half."
God rest his soul.

He may not get much respect, but three weeks after his heart surgery, comedian Rodney Dangerfield is getting a lot of company from old friends like Jay Leno, Jim Carrey and Roseanne. The 82-year-old performer -- famed for his self-deprecating one-liners and the catch phrase 'I can't get no respect' -- has enjoyed a parade of recent visits from fellow comic stars at the UCLA Medical Center, his spokesman said on Sept. 15, 2004. Rodney before his heart operation was asked: How long will you be in the hospital? He replied "If everything goes right, a week. If everything goes wrong, an hour and a half."
Thanks for the laughs Rodney.

Watched a rebroadcast of his 75th birthday special on cable a few weeks ago, he was still at the top of his game in the '90s. I was a fan long before Caddyshack. Funniest comedian of all time in my book, and a true "comedian," not a "humorist" as so many of the current "comedians" really are.

RIP.

I always missed many of his jokes because I would still be laughing too hard from the previous one. This is indeed a very sad day.
My favorite joke, "I wanted to go on a vacation, and the travel agent said you can stay six nights in Puerto Rico. No days, just six nights. I asked him, 'what do I do during the day', he said, 'I don't care what you do, just stay out of Puerto Rico.'"

Many years ago as a teenager growing up in Ft. Lauderdale I was on the beach and crossed the walkway over to the Bahia Mar hotel. There was a crowd around a lounge chair at the pool and at first glance I thought people were screaming over a drowning victim. As I drew near, there in the middle was Rodney Dangerfield, slaying everybody with joke after joke, giving a free show for everybody. I had the pleasure to lean in and enjoy. Rodney was magic!
