STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - A group of Swedish parliamentarians proposed levying a "man tax" to cover the social cost of violence against women.
|
"It must be obvious to all of us that society has a huge problem with male violence against women and that has a cost," Left Party deputy Gudrun Schyman told Swedish radio on Monday.
"We must have a discussion where men understand they as a group have a responsibility," said Schyman, one of the party members to sign the motion for debate on the new tax.
Sweden already has the highest taxes in the European Union (news - web sites) as a percentage of gross domestic product to pay for its famous but hard-pushed cradle-to-grave welfare program.
It is also one of the world's most advanced nations in terms of gender equality, but Schyman said in a headline-hitting 2002 speech that discrimination in Sweden followed "the same pattern" as in Afghanistan (news - web sites) under the Taliban.
Hey now, ABBA rocks! =)
And how do you assess the tax? Income? Wealth? Sports events tickets? Beer?
This is funny stuff. I can't believe anyone would propose this and let his name be known.

Well, when all the men get fed up and leave, all the women can live ahppily ever after in a Male-Free Society... at least until they raise taxes on sex toys...

The last time I got in touch with my feminine side, it took out a Restraining Order against me.
But your feminine side was askin' for it....
I'm trying to think of an appropriate Ole and Lena joke. There must be one . . . (Think, think, think). . .
News Flash - Stockholm Sweden, 26 May 2006
Sweden today became the first all female country when Nors Haldersohm immigrated to Spain. Mr. Haldersom was the last male left in Sweden. Male immigration from Sweden skyrocketed after the Swedish Parliament passed the Man Tax in 2004.
Mr. Haldersohm stated, "I didn't mind the tax so much as the public humiliation and beatings I forced to endure every Saturday."
Parliament passed the Man Tax act in 2004 in spite of the fact that the last known beating of a women by a man in Sweden occurred in 1921.
Left Party deputy Gudrun Schyman is now preparing what is known as the Male Castration act that will force all male children born in Sweden to be castrated at birth. Although it is speculative as to how many children will be born in Sweden in the future, Ms. Schyman stated, "We considered forcing the abortion of male foetuses, however, that was seen as too radical. We must never let the situation arise again where women are discriminated against."
Coincidently, female immigration has recently increased in Sweden with 20% of the female population leaving in the past nine months. A recent survey has shown that another 72% of the female population is considering immigration.
Their view seems to be summed up by Lindle Hotfrock who stated, "Although women are no longer beaten we don't get anything else either."
Just tax married men - that will make the tax easy to avoid. ;)
I think they should tax people standing in open fields!
How much would they tax Kerry & Edwards for being "Girlie Men" ?
