I found a couple of sites that have info:

http://www.ssec.wisc.edu/data/volcano.html

http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/

http://www.earthmountainview.com/volcanos.html

Lots here too: http://www.dartmouth.edu/~volcano/

If you're under the mistaken impression that volcanic eruptions in Mexico are extremely rare, or that magnitude 5-6 earthquakes or earthquake swarms in California are extremely rare, then gee, it will all look like there's no way it can be a coincidence.

No body said these things were rare. However the entire plate is moving. You can not claim these things are isolated either. Do I believe that magma moving here causes something over there? No but they are inter related, there is just no getting around that.

Wait a minute... I thought the eruption was postponed. It must be Bush' Fault.

For every Wegener and Galileo there were about 100,000 guys outside the science mainstream with weird theories who turned out to be horribly wrong and are now rightfully completely forgotten.

...or show up annually at every local New Age Faire, hawking their super-stupendous wonder-gizmo method to make you young, healthy, spiritually stuned..ah, I mean attuned, "vigorous" and insure your razor is never dull.

The fact is, though, that when scientific theory advances, it is not a nice, slow, change of ideas. It is a cataclysm, a catastrophe, a change in the fundamental way of looking at the universe.

There is a huge investment in keeping any current theory alive. People have spent years of their lives learning the accepted viewpoints, and are loathe to abandon them. I remember a girl I knew in college ripping pages out of one of her bio textbooks because something fundamentaly different had been discovered, and two semesters of study went down the drain.

You say they are all connected. Fine. Let's go with that for a moment. Can you give me mechanism that would connect all these phenomena?

Here are some of the properties of such a mechanism:

1. It has to work through 2200 miles of continental mass, three fracture zones, at least two subduction zones.

2. It has to be repeatable (or explainable why not). That means every time MSH goes off, we have to have Richter 5 earthquakes AND Colima going off.

3. It has to be commutative (or explainable why not). That means for every M5 earthquake in CA, Colima must go off, and MSH has to rumble. Or when Colima blasts, so does MSH.

4. It has to STOP at Colima. Unless you want to tie in other phenomena.

Just saying "everything is interconnected" does NOT make it so. You have to explain HOW they interconnect. I could say that the swallows at Capistrano cause the flowers to bloom, because they both occur at the same time....but that does not make it so.

Until you propose a mechanism where all these events interrelate, I am afraid you are still relegated to Art Bell land.

What kills me is the scientists saying there is no connection between this, the earth quakes in CA and the volcanic eruption in Mexico. Yeah right!

Well, considering that there is Volcanic Activity at least 300+ days out of the year in Mexico, and Earthquakes are a normal occurance in California, I'd have to say that the odds of them all being connected are pretty darn slim, and more than likely coincidental :0)

Mel's Hole is out by Ellensburg, I believe - which is Central, as opposed to Western, Washington...
