Of Bush, Kerry, and Bush's Necktie
My fevered brow | 10-01-2004 | By Laz

Posted on 10/01/2004 11:59:30 AM PDT by Lazamataz

I noticed something last night.

G.W. Bush's necktie was askew. It looked unprofessional. I wondered HOW in the heck that could have happened.

Then during the replay, I saw how it happened. When Kerry greeted Bush, Kerry held on to Bush's hand as Bush was walking away. Bush was forced to awkwardly stretch his torso, dislodging the correct placement of the tie.

I initially thought it was all happenstance. But on further review, I saw that Kerry made a point of adjusting his tie after the handshake, just in case the manuever dislodged his too.

Maybe it was an accident, maybe not. I think not. If anyone has contacts to Bush, please advise them of this possible purposeful action, or at the very least, MAKE SURE BUSH'S TIE IS STRAIGHT. I was focused on the tie, it looked so sloppy.

I can't disagree that it lends to the overall picture, but I also think that most people would never even be able to verbalize the effect you're talking about.

And I'm not sure if that's good or bad for Bush....

I think the unconscious would not have noticed, but many may have noticed at least subconsciously.

LOL! Touche.

The same thing happened to Edmund Farquar, during the first Farquar/Lincoln debate. Now you know why you've never heard of Edmund Farquar.

!!!!

Clearly this is a time-honored trick! ;^)

I think Bush would be wise to go the dark blue suit, burgundy/red tie during next debate.

Absolutely.

Either that, or Speedos.

Thanks. I got the memo. I'll take care of it.

And while you are at it, I need new front tires. Can Bush help there? ;^)

But what's the excuse for Kerry's makeup job? Yikes! lipstick on a horse.

I really thought that they packaged a pig well, this time.

Com'on Laz, this is the kind of whining and complaining I would expect from the RATs at DU. Do I think that F'n held the shake too long? Of course. Its one of the oldest tricks in the book when dealing with an adversary. Do I think he did it to mess with GWB's tie? You're giving Lurch far too much credit. Let me explain something. This is the big leagues. If you're going to play in the big leagues, then you have to expect stuff like this. I mean, when Pedro throws at your head you get out of the way and then get back in the batter's box, look for your pitch, and go with it. You don't cry and complain and bitch because as a professional in the majors, this sort of stuff is SOP. And if Mo Lewis lays you out flat, you shouldn't run around crying about how he hits too hard. Get up, brush yourself off, and next time drive your shoulder into his gut. There are too many f'n weanies around here. This is big league politics. Stop making excuses. Stop being cry babies.

I think you mistake my tone. I'm not whining, I'm observing... and hoping we accomodate the tricks next time.

A caller on Rush today said that the President had spent the morning touring some of the most catastrophic hurricane damage imaginable, and that Bush must have been shell-shocked. What kind of a cyborg could walk away from seeing so many lives devastated, and then several short hours later act as if he'd spent the day being buffed, sanded, manicured and made up as Kerry probably did?

Good point. But also, maybe -- just for a day before each debate -- he might want to avoid touring such devastation. He can fly out there the next day.

That's why I took the time to put pen to paper fingers to keys.

I know that. And the proof is in the fact that TODAY W looked very rested. To me, his tiredness last night was just an indication that he is doing his job, something that Kerry will never understand.

So Kerry is using sneaky, tie-tweaking ninja techniques? You gotta be kidding me.

I hope so. You've been around here a long time and are the last person I would expect to make excuses. When the going gets tough the tough get going. The whole handshake thing is to try to show who's in control. I do it all the time with people I don't like. Rather than avoiding the handshake, I grasp firmly, and when my adversary tries to pull away, I squeeze a little tighter and hold another second or so, until I decide the handshake is over. It really pisses people off and that's why I do it.

OH THANK YOU! A new way to piss people off. I need new material, the whole 'killing everyone in your entire race in sprawling death camps' thing is getting so old.....

Kerry was trying to prolong the "towering over Bush" moment.

He does the grab, push, squeeze, abuse thing to Theresa and other around him. He is a bully.

Next debate, I fully expect Kerry to tumble on to the stage, whip out a sword from a scabbard on his back, and cut W's tie off outright.
