Kerry is in trouble - he needed to hit a HomeRun tonight and all he did was stay alive, NOT GOOD.

Kerry is Thurman Thomas losing his helmet before Super Bowl XXVI - they never had a chance, regardless if Thurman found his helmet - or if Kerry finds his "Positions".

Either way - the Redskins were going to WIN that game and Bush will win this game, albeit a much MORE important game!

Bush seemed plum tuckered out. He missed some very easy hits. Well, of course he was tired. He's been on his feet all day, preparing for the debate AND consoling hurricane victims. John Kerry, on the other hand, spent the day getting a manicure.

On first impression, Kerry won. Hopefully this will cause the uniformed swing voter to pay more attention to Kerry. In the next few weeks, the uninformed swing voters will become confused with Kerry's evolving positions. Thus, conclude that Kerry is full of trash.

Kerry was critical of Bush for not transferring authority over Iraq to the UN after Baghdad fell.

It was at the end of session, just as the red light went on. Seems to me this is a major gaffe by Kerry.

That is an excellent point, but I believe Kerry would have put the troops under UN control prior to the invasion. However, I seriously doubt Kerry would have invaded Iraq or Afghanistan for that matter.

The MSM is in the tank for Kerry. They would have declared him the winner simply because they set the bar so low for him that he came out looking good. But looking good isn't enough and the MSM doesn't have the monopoly it used to have. There's the New Media and there's FR. We didn't have that in the 80s and we still did fine. The American people readily concede Kerry holds his own in a debate but they know he doesn't share THEIR VALUES. Kerry didn't connect with people trust me and he lost Middle America when he said America had to be held to a "Global Test." The American people are NOT voting for Kofi Annan's Under-Secretary, the role Kerry seems to be lusting after. As I said, President Bush is not a gifted speaker. But he sincere and authentic and that's a lot more than can be said for his opponent. I defy you to name me ONE positive reason Kerry offered to swing voters tonight to elect him the next POTUS. I rest my case.

This is sort of similar to the first Reagan/Mondale debate. While Reagan may have been overprepared, Bush here was prepared to attack Kerry in places and did, but his defense was to focus on message, rather than be prepared to respond to each of Kerry's charges.

As with Reagan, Bush will do better in the next ones.

I just saw Bill Schneider (sp?) on CNN with interesting Gallup results. They showed that most respondents thought Kerry won, but Bush still held a clear advantage on being a decisive leader and on who will do a better job on Iraq. It suggests that even if people thought Kerry won the debate, that does not translate into them thinking Kerry will do a better job in foreign policy.

Bush won on substance.

Substance trumps Style points.

The polls will declare the debate a draw or win for kerry on style.

Votes will be determined on substance. Bush still holds the edge.
