Thread 1 - Pre-Debate discussion
THANK YOU! Bush may not have done well but Kerry was NO joy to watch either!
President Bush did not destroy John Kerry tonight, but he didn't have to. President Bush just needed to not make a big screwup.
Sen. Kerry came across as a good speaker who was trying to sell a bad product. His biggest problem is that most Americans do not think that continued diplomacy would have had an impact on Saddam. And that is the critical difference between the two men, Bush acted and Kerry would have wanted Round 18. So, Kerry loses this as being an indecisive executive.
President Bush is not a great speaker but he was simple and clear tonight in hammering a number of points. The world needs America to be strong. The American President must be resolute.
The President made the point that this is "Hard Work" many times. This is the core difference between the two people, Sen. Kerry flaps his gums, President Bush has to actually act and some actions can be second guessed. Campaing rhetoric is not easily proven to be wrong.
The "global test" comment by Kerry (along with calls for more diplomacy on Iraq) are the key to just how much Kerry would subordinate the US interests to the UN and France.
One last note, I thought that the questions by their nature favored the challenger because after all they focused 100% on the problem areas and spent no time talking about the successes-- like Afghanistan, and the fact that AQ has been decimated.
President Bush will not lose ground based on this debate IMHO.
I believe these debates are aimed at one group, and one group only. Political junkies are not the people on the fence. Thus it is the person with a mediocre interest in details that a candidate wants to connect with.
President Bush did this beautifully. He is plain spoken and his natural body language gives the viewer a feeling of his honesty.
On the other hand, Kerry spoke as most senators do and it bores the non-political ear and mind. The mechanical man arms and hands were a riot and it screamed insincerity.
It's funny to listen to the pundits pore over the minutia as if this is rocket science. My guess is that the targets of this debate turned the channel before the talking heads cleared their throats. And I bet a lot of them walked away with a good feeling about the real man, George Bush.
wake up EVERYONE .....did anyone else hear: Kerry say give IRAN NUCLEAR FUEL?
DID Kerry say give IRAN NUCLEAR FUEL?
DID Kerry say give IRAN NUCLEAR FUEL?
DID Kerry say give IRAN NUCLEAR FUEL?
DID Kerry say give IRAN NUCLEAR FUEL?
I SMELL COMMERCIAL TIME ON THIS ISSUE.
I love GWB. I've worked for his campaign (doing it tomorrow, in fact)... I've given him more money than I probably should. I've seen him in person (a fundraiser for Norm Coleman) and he was great. Polished, relaxed, friendly, focused, powerful.
But tonight he was not in his zone. He's not a good debater. We knew that in '00 and we know it today.
>>Isn't is just damn fascinating how posters that I've never seen hide nor hair of on FR before show up to post their doom and gloom comments on these live threads??
Just damn fascinating I tell ya.....

Couldn't have said it any better!!
I think we've been infiltrated!!
At least Benedict Arnold had a real wound from the revolution.
I love Pres Bush... He is the man..
He did very poorly tonight..He could have slammed dunked Kerry , and he didn't...
oh well. Interesting that he could have lost the debate on points, but won the debate on character... hence winning over more voters.
NBC just had a "focus" group full of Kerry leaners, who all said how much they liked Kerry. Gee, next time why don't they just use the staff of The Nation as a focus group? Blatant as hell, and typical MSM tripe.
YES!
And nowadays we listen VEDDY VEDDY close.
WHAT A BLEEPING LIAR!
Once again the talking heads are just out of it.
Don't forget:
5. I have a plan.
6. It's better than his.
You win! LOL. You summed up Kerry's entire debate in 10 words!
oh they are always pumping up Kerry....hahahahahahahah
I write ole Georgie boy an email every single day just to remind him he's a girlyboy... Hes always on Kerrys side...if Kerry hadnt even SHOWN UP, he'd be over there with Jennings pumping him up......
what about Rudy!!....he just knocked Kerry into left field, where he's always been.....
WOOHOO
4 more years!!
Too repetitive. Too mundane. He could have killed Kerry five times (by my count) and let the opportunity pass.
He's got a good closing statement, but I'm afraid some people turned this off."
It wasn't an impressive performance by Dubya -- he was far more on the defensive rather than offensive.
He seemed distracted and p*ssed (perhaps by the sheer volume of BS Kerry kept shoveling) so much to the point that he couldn't think straight.
It's hard to discern whether the Undecideds will relate to Dubya's uber "folksieness."
Fox is now showing the soundbite where Kerry says he has been consistent and Bush saying he hasn't!
At least Benedict Arnold had a real wound from the revolution.
What are the uncommitted voters saying on CNN and CBS?
Did they like Bush or Kerry more? If they like either one more, is it enough to change votes?
People like that weren't even watching the debate. Kerry helped himself a little tonight (mostly by not living down to the worst that has been said about him), but he isn't going to get back the Reagan Democrats that the SwiftVet ads cost him.
Kerry Plan " I . . . I . . . I . . . I . . . I . . . I . . . I . . . I . . . "
I, yi, yi, yi, yi. This guy is stuck on himself. He's going to lose voters.
