It bothers me to no end that Kerry claims veteran status for 4 months in country. He arrived and left VN a newbie!

What is wrong with people here? Why is everyone sounding so defeated?

Nothing wrong with me. Kerry did well. Bush did okay. Bush could have done better but neither delivered a knock out blow to the other.

I think if you look at this very substantive debate, you will find in Kerry's positions things that the American public is not going to agree with.

For starters, Kerry criticized Bush for not turning Iraq over to the UN after Baghdad feel. Do you think the American people believe we should let the UN have Iraq now?

Another point, Kerry said we should have given sanctions more time to work. No thinks sanctions would have worked.

As Kerry's positions in this debate are examined, if they are in any detail, important differences between Bush and Kerry will come to light even if Bush was not as effective at point those out during the debate.

On scoring a debate. Okay, give it to Kerry by a small margin - he helped himself. On the issues and positions taken by Kerry, Kerry has some liabilities coming out of this debate.

I'm puzzled at the president's apparent lack of preparation. He should have absolutely nailed Kerry in this debate, but seemed very hesitant

If Bush nailed Kerry, he would demonstrate that he is a cowboy. By being polite, reflective and hesistant he comes accross as someone who comes to his conclusions thoughtfully. On the other hand Kerry comes accross as boastfull, arrogant etc. all the negative attributes Bush is supposed to have.

I'm even beginning to wonder that the long pause before answering was done purposefully.

Treblinka was a Nazi Concentration Camp. ...Lubyanka Square, where the old headquarters of the KGB is still...

Another Kerry mistake, after flubbing Pottery Barn.

"Bush won this debate and I'm kind of surprised because he looked awful there for awhile."

No. Bush is genuine and not a smoothy with a fresh manicure and spray tan. The folks on here who thought Bush did not look sharp forgot that that's his style and his heart shines through as does his competence as a leader. He doesn't try to be a slickster. He says what he means. That came through tonight BIG time!

Bush came across as sincere, not as pleading. Kerry did alot of talking but not much sincerity...

That was my impression. It was actually, I think, frustration with Kerry's insincerity and outright lying, But in many cases his tone was both defensive and his voice went up an octave. In debating, that comes accross as desperation, pleading, whinning, or any of a number negative emotions.

Kerry The Insincere demostrated his masterful baiting skills and and maintained his demeanor and voice modulation throughout. His delivery was very competent. The president's was hesitant.

To those who pay attention only to the superficial, and that includes many of the swing-voters, Kerry probably looks like the winner of the debate.

I may well be wrong, but that is my gut reaction.

I listened to it on the radio. Bush's voice was too high and too stressed. Kerry is an effective debater his voice was more calm. Bush was very eager to answer the followup questions. Bush appeared defensive at times but hammered at kerry for waffling on positions. Kerry had some good comebacks for the waffling.

This was a very good debate and both men were evenly matched.

My opinion of kerry has not changed. I look at his ultra liberal record over the past 20 years. He can be the best debater in the world BUT NOTHING CAN CHANGE HIS VOTING RECORD.

I don't like having my admiration and devotion to our President attacked because I thought he was not doing as well in a debate.

You're whining. State your opinion and back it up and let others do the same.

Buck up and don't be so Kerryesque.

BTW, the fact that President Bush won the debate probably goes to whatever criticism whatever comments you made elicited.

Kerry came off as a slick know-it-all with no solutions or plans.

Bush came off as a sincere guy who isn't much of a debater, but has the experience to back up what he says.

Kerry throws from in front of the mound and still can't get it over the plate.

Bush throws from the mound and puts it over the plate.

Which one is the real "ball player"?

Kerry is as phoney as all his little "snapshots" of a real player.

Some of you gloom and doom jokers need to get a grip. To win the title YOU GOT TO KNOCK THE CHAMP OUT!

Maybe you should bone up on how politics is really played. Dubya would have had to fall down drolling and talking in tongues for Kerry to win this one.

Kerry didn't do anything to overcome his own negatives or to show Bush in a bad light.

For all of Kerry's polish, he didn't do anything to improve his position in the election.

What? You must have been watching a different debate than I did. Man, Woman, Whoever, Kerry was still Kerry. Bush was still Bush. Nope. I was thumbs up all the way. Mantan versus Suntan. No contest.

God Bless Dubya!
I love him, I'm unquestionably going to support and vote for him.
But there is no question that Kerry is a much slicker speaker. He lays out the lies with a confidence that is astounding. And just as astounding, Dubya can't seem to call him on those lies: that Clinton's policy enabled North Korea to develope nuclear weapons and Kerry's policy is more of the same; that tax cuts were essential to bring the country out of the Clinton recession; that the situation in Iraq is progressing, not a "mess"; that we must fight a War on Terror not a personal War on Osama; that Iraq was a haven for terror and isn't any longer; that the situation in Iraq is improving, not withstanding that it is violent and sometimes slow, tedious progress; that Kerry cannot violate the sovereignty of Russia to dictate the terms by which nuclear materials there are secured there; that Kerry's only plan is, evidently, "I'm smarter and I'll spend more."; etc., etc, etc.
MY hope and prayer is that the public, in general, already knows these things and won't fall for a slick talker. God help us if they do.

There is NO ABILITY to hit the MSM's Communist candidate with a knock-out blow - any moreso than he will in the 2nd or 3rd debates!

The only thing Bush has the ability to do better (because you can't change the truth, and it's on Bush's side, that is why he's COMFORTABLY striding through this campaign) is FRAME the TRUTH so that Kerry can't STEAL it, like he did tonight.

But Bush pointed out 3 or 4 idiotic mistruths that are fact in JFnK's little hash-hazed world.

1)Wrong war, treatment of allies and 'yes before I said no'

2)Declare the Peace 'Summit' ain't gonna fly with real Americans

3)NK and multilateral talks versus SURRENDERING LIKE CLINTON DID TO THE COMMUNISTS IN BILATERAL giveaway talks.

4)Kyoto - anyone with a brain knows WHY Kyoto got DRUMMED OUT OF THE SENATE...

I could go on and on...

Going to take a week just to list the flips, flops and lies.

But a couple of friends emailed me, they have no idea what his Iraq policy is after listening to him.
