Kerry wants another round of resolutions.

Kerry used "outsourcing" again. We didn't send it the 'best troups.'

New Question: Pre-emptive war. Doctrine in Cold War. When you do it, you must do it in a way that it passes the "global" test. Your people know why you did it.

OOOPS, he mentioned De Gaulle (sp) -- Frenchie Kerry.

Fighting for Anti-Proliferation the entire time in Congress (Kerry). Wants him to deal with UN.

Bush: "What does passes the global test" mean? Not signing certain treaties, response: Wouldn't join international criminal court. In the Hague -- unaccountable court where our people could be prosecuted (with no checks/balances) is wrong for America.

Kerry IS looking good but his facts are not factual. I agree this is looking like a disaster. This debate is hanging on style NOT substance. I agree. I am scared to death.

W has the facts and the message, Kerry has the rhetorical slicks. The mushy middles don't care to process facts. They go for looks. We'll be down in the polls over the next couple days.

I wish that the President's stage presence had been better tonight. He lost some ground, IMO.

Damn...I thought it was just me. I live in Austin, TX and have seen W in large & small gatherings, and he is SO stiff tonight (over coached?) and Kerry is smarming charm all over the stage, and probably the undecideds.

Content-wise..W is the man..but his usual natural ease, appeals to common sense, and subtle humor just AIN'T there tonight!!! What happened?

6PPC WROTE: "Yup...every question is slanted to give Kerry a springboard for criticism."

It was clear to me that Kerry got the questions ahead of time when Kerry said something to the effect of "we'll get to homeland security in a later question."

Bush needs more facts, but he just nailed Kerry on that national court. He should have confronted how the Kyoto treaty would affect our economy.

We may have lost the election tonight.

How much would you like to bet on that?

te divergence of opinion on this thread is quite amazing - from people saying its over, to people saying Bush is doing well. I'm not watching it, hopefully the truth is someplace in the middle. I really think most americans only watch the first hour of the first debate, so if some of the earlier posts were right, Kerry likely made up some ground.

this election is going down to the wire, just like many of us said it would. clearly from what many freepers are posting here, there isn't going to be any landslide. that may well be for the best, too many people on our side were getting over confident - it doesn't sound like that will continue after tonight, and that's a good thing.

"President Bush speaks from the heart, has our best interests at hand, and I'm hoping that the American public sees this."

So very true. I hope & pray that's true too.

GW, PLEASE tell them about NK. yes, he is. though he is so polite, he won't mention the Rapist in Chief's name.

What if Bush, who has always far far better than liberals predicted in everything he's done, is burning up the first 2/3 of the debate letting those guys think he's doing just as they predicted, letting Kerry get away with over an hour of logorrhea, letting Kerry look as though he's getting away with things, letting Kerry make the President look put upon, all so he can end up on a strong note that will be remembered with Kerry having no where to go? Of course, I'm sure that NO one has ever thought of coaching someone to plan stuff like this. I mean, since when has Bush ever cut the legs of liberals' expectations out from under them over the last 4 years?

Seriously? Please. I reiterate, I'm a pessimist without peer, and W is doing just fine. No votes are changing anywhere.
