ELECTION 2004
Kerry misspeaks about 'inarticulate moment'
Blames infamous comment on lateness of evening, but it was made at noon

Though Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry today blamed his infamous comment about his vote on an $87 billion war bill on it being "late in the evening," the remark in fact was made at a noontime appearance.

In an interview this morning on ABC's "Good Morning America," Kerry was asked about the comment he made in March, when he said, "I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it." The remark has been used countless times by Bush supporters to ridicule Kerry and label him as a flip-flopper.

Said Kerry on the program today: "No, it wasn't classic at all. It just was a very inarticulate way of saying something, and I had one of those inarticulate moments late in the evening when I was dead tired in the primaries and I didn't say something very clearly."

Problem is, as the Republican National Committee pointed out, the comment about the bill, which provided funds for U.S. troops in Iraq, was actually made at a noontime appearance before a group of veterans at Marshall University in West Virginia.

The RNC jokingly chalked up the faux pas to the fact that when it's noon in West Virginia, it is 6 p.m. in Paris, France.

"Perhaps his watch was on Paris time," the RNC quipped in a statement.

Only 35 days until Hillary is the presumptive Dem presidential nominee for 2008. I bet she can't wait.

Where can I get a sound file (e.g., mp3, wav) of Kerry's "I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it" quote. I did several web searches, but got a lot of text "hits."

I've saved it on my computer. You might suspect just how many times it is appropriate.

I predict that it will go down in history.

That guy has the GROSSEST skin on his face and neck. I can't imagine how ANYBODY, including Teresa, could snuggle up to that and actually KISS it. Yuck!

No wonder she was grimacing when he was trying to kiss her in that one photograph. LOL

Another FReeper made the comment that he said he could understand why Kerry married Teresa ($$$$), but why on earth did she marry HIM? I'd like to know the answer to that one, too. With her money, she could have had just about anybody - so why did she choose such a creep?

Today, he vaguely resembles a cross between a rotting carved pumpkin and a well-done steak, perhaps a poor attempt at appearing clownish, most certainly not presidential.

A simply, "I'm a moron" will do, Lurch.

"It just was a very inarticulate way of saying something..."

But but how can this be? Molly Ivens says Bush is the only one who gets his tang tungled. Nom, no, there must be some mistake here.

There are days that Kerry makes the real Lurch look handsome in comparison.

There is something wrong with his health that America doesn't know about.

why do i want a president who cannot speak effectively when he is tired? ... do i forgive him for a stupid remark or a stupid decision just because he's tired? i want a president who is lucid during tough times, not sending his lackeys out making excuses for him (how many orange states are there?)
