"Had been out on skyline drive and saw hoards of cars parked looking at what looked like a big storm brewing to the south and West--mostly West--a long 'cloud' bank"
Wasn't that odd. We were on a skywalk downtown, saw the "storm front", thought it was rain coming our way.

There have been several months worth of increased earthquake activity in the Northwest. I check the patterns daily. East of Klamath falls in S. Oregon as well as several offshore locations have shown new activity. All Washington has had increased activity. The series of small to medium quakes map out the fault lines and you can almost visualize the Juan de Fuca plate sliding under Washington and Oregon.

I can imagine.
There was a 5.+ quake in Taipei when I was there in the Navy in 1970.
We worked 2, 2, 2 & 80 hours off. That meant we had two "double backs" where we worked an 8 hour shift; had 8 hours off and went back for another 8 hours of work (as a Radioman).
I wake up and my bed is shaking (actually moving inches across the terrazzo floor but I didn't quite realize that at first).
The custom was to have the houseboy wake us up in that military NCO hostel. They would come in and actually shake the bed in some cases.
I realized eventually that it was a quake when I opened my eyes and there was no houseboy. I told God that I was ready to go to Heaven but that otherwise, I needed my sleep as I had to go back to work--to please help me sleep--He did. I did.
LOL.

Not quite.
There were a list of specifics that were supposed to happen within a few years or months span of Mt Etna lighting off again.
And, the list of very serious disasters were highly unlikely to happen in such close proximity to one another in the normal course of events.
I think one of the specifics was Japan losing major portions of land to the sea in massive quakes. But I don't recall for certain.
If you are a total 100% NONsupernaturalist--you will have your sensibilities seriously jangled in the coming years/few decades.
Of that, I'm certain--unless you are brain or otherwise dead.

My wife and I took a helicopter ride up to the volcano about five years ago. The pilot of the small chopper took us right down inside the crater, and we went around the lava dome. It was a spectacular view. I have tons of photos of the dome and the sides that were left after the one side collapsed. We flew out in the direction the volcano blew and the dead trees suddenly stopped and live trees began again. It was weird seeing that. Just like a fence was there. We came back and as he topped one small mountain, there was a fantastic shot of the crater and I took the photo and had it enlarged and framed and hanging on our wall at home. Really spectacular place.

I heard on the news this morning that Mauna Loa is also acting up and is being watched very closely. Current Activity: Mauna Loa
It'll erupt soon. That could be in a couple of months, in a few months, in a year, in a couple of years...

I don't think anyone lives inside the blast zone, but anybody downwind would be in trouble from all the ash. Not to mention the chaos in the rivers.

I was working under a house in the whittier narrows quake I was in one of the blimp hangars at MCAS Tustin for the Whittier quake. Like being inside a wooden bowl of jello.

You can SEE St. Helens at the Mount St. Helens VolcanoCam site
here. Or cut and paste the link: http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/volcanocams/msh/
Pic updates once every five minutes. What is really interesting is that this site has been DOWN for a couple of years and was rushed back online about the same time as that swarm of quakes started up!
Someone expecting something perhaps?!?!?!

After about four days of constant tremors in the mag 2 neighborhood, does anybody think that magma/lava is gurgling up from deep below into the volcano. If it was just groundwater, why did it start all of the sudden and why has it continued like this basically unchanged for days? I am no expert by any means, but I am beginning to think dome building. If it IS magma moving around underneath the dome, why aren't there any gasses and up to now no deformation? :)

"Where did you hear this, we live about 150 miles away from Mammoth."Sorry it took so long to get back to you.
I just heard it on the radio news. I have heard that Mammoth has been doing some rumblings off and on for some time. Here is a site you may be interested in.

Beautiful pic! I just saved it.
It breaks my heart what's happened to that place. The last time I saw it I had to go over and do a quick patrol as the El Toro Officer of the Day, and it was heartbreaking to see it deserted with weeds growing up all over the place. I couldn't attend the official closing of El Toro, that would have been too much. I spent 11 of my 21 years in the Marine Corps at those two stations.
