I was just reading another thread on this subject, when I came to the line stating that the quake intensity and frequency had diminished on Monday. That it complete eyewash - for whom I don't know. Evidently they don't want to scare the masses - just in case. The thread I'm referring to is located here.
Below I'm posting the last three seismographs for you to see that this claim is bogus indeed. This swarm is appearing to grow, with over 1,000 earthquakes so far since Thursday. The depth of the quakes is still near the surface, and they are saying that this could be caused by rain water getting through the lava dome causing steam explosions. I can't comment on that other than we've had little or no rain for some time now. This almost has to be caused by moving magma.
Anyway, here are the charts: This first one is from Monday evening. Note the white spaces you see on this chart:
This second chart covers the first half of today (using GMT time) - White spaces? Nope. (And that isn't wind shaking the equipment.)
Finally, here is the current chart. Note that the jolts are getting taller, and the frequency hasn't diminished.
"Had been out on skyline drive and saw hoards of cars parked looking at what looked like a big storm brewing to the south and West--mostly West--a long 'cloud' bank"
Wasn't that odd. We were on a skywalk downtown, saw the "storm front", thought it was rain coming our way.
Interesting.
Thx
I can imagine.
There was a 5.+ quake in Taipei when I was there in the Navy in 1970.
We worked 2, 2, 2 & 80 hours off. That meant we had two "double backs" where we worked an 8 hour shift; had 8 hours off and went back for another 8 hours of work (as a Radioman).
I wake up and my bed is shaking (actually moving inches across the terrazzo floor but I didn't quite realize that at first).
The custom was to have the houseboy wake us up in that military NCO hostel. They would come in and actually shake the bed in some cases.
I realized eventually that it was a quake when I opened my eyes and there was no houseboy. I told God that I was ready to go to Heaven but that otherwise, I needed my sleep as I had to go back to work--to please help me sleep--He did. I did.
LOL.
Not quite.
There were a list of specifics that were supposed to happen within a few years or months span of Mt Etna lighting off again.
And, the list of very serious disasters were highly unlikely to happen in such close proximity to one another in the normal course of events.
I think one of the specifics was Japan losing major portions of land to the sea in massive quakes. But I don't recall for certain.
If you are a total 100% NONsupernaturalist--you will have your sensibilities seriously jangled in the coming years/few decades.
Of that, I'm certain--unless you are brain or otherwise dead.
It'll erupt soon. That could be in a couple of months, in a few months, in a year, in a couple of years...
I don't think anyone lives inside the blast zone, but anybody downwind would be in trouble from all the ash. Not to mention the chaos in the rivers.
Red
I was in one of the blimp hangars at MCAS Tustin for the Whittier quake. Like being inside a wooden bowl of jello.
Pic updates once every five minutes. What is really interesting is that this site has been DOWN for a couple of years and was rushed back online about the same time as that swarm of quakes started up!
Someone expecting something perhaps?!?!?!
After about four days of constant tremors in the mag 2 neighborhood, does anybody think that magma/lava is gurgling up from deep below into the volcano. If it was just groundwater, why did it start all of the sudden and why has it continued like this basically unchanged for days? I am no expert by any means, but I am beginning to think dome building. If it IS magma moving around underneath the dome, why aren't there any gasses and up to now no deformation? :)
Sorry it took so long to get back to you.
I just heard it on the radio news. I have heard that Mammoth has been doing some rumblings off and on for some time. Here is a site you may be interested in.
incredibly cool cam
It breaks my heart what's happened to that place. The last time I saw it I had to go over and do a quick patrol as the El Toro Officer of the Day, and it was heartbreaking to see it deserted with weeds growing up all over the place. I couldn't attend the official closing of El Toro, that would have been too much. I spent 11 of my 21 years in the Marine Corps at those two stations.
