I doubt Bush will win Maine, but he may win one elector out of four. (Maine splits the electoral votes in its two congressional districts, I believe, but the statewide winner takes the two other votes, making a 3-1 split possible.)

I think Maine will go 3-1 in some fashion this election.

You mean there are 46% of Maine residents who are dumb enough to vote for the buffoon sKerry? This is unbelievable, in light of how poorly he did in the primaries among a field of nine or ten. I thought residents of Maine were supposed to be smart! These high numbers for sKerry show otherwise.

I think many of those polled are going to vote Bush, but will not admit it.
Once they close those curtains, they will be faced with the fact of who is going to protect their families, and they will pull the lever for Bush.

2nd Congressional District of Maine, 2000:
Gore 143,658
Bush 137,998
Nader 16,830
'Twas very close last time.

We have been busting our buts here in Maine to get the word out. Yesterday we went door to door in Androscoggin county (with the help of Mass. College Republicans). There has been a major push here in Maine to get the Bush voters out. The Kerry/Edwards people must be feeling it because last night they stole all the Bush/Cheney signs in my town and stole our large wooden Bush sign (I am making a bigger one right now, the paint is drying). Bush drew a huge crowd in Bangor and only a handful of protesters showed up.
I think Maine could pull it off. I think we will definitely pull of the split.

In the 1970s, all the Dead Heads and other burned out hippies moved to maine and treated the locals like sh*t. They became school teachers and tourist pimps, changing the whole culture of the state. It's about time the native generations take it all back now.

Hey take it easy on us. Some days I feel we are just a Boston suburb. You have no idea how many lefty loons are trying to save the forests and animals from rabid hunters and loggers.
Expect the Green party and Ralph Nader to do well.

Yeah, but that was in the days before Algore went insane and was, to the left, a credible candidate. sKerry doesn't even that going for him!

I know. But there must be more enlightened folks like you, hiding in pockets of resistance to the occupation?

Took the missus to the Common Ground Fair in Unity Maine. To give you some idea about what it is like think tree hugging, granola crunching druids at an organic fair. Of course I wore the Bush pin and the pickup had the Bush sticker as well.
Imagine my surprise at seeing som many other people with W04 stickers on! I expected to be the only one, but was with other brave conservatives who decided to challenge the Naderites and the Kerry backers.
I think Maine will be giving at least 1EV to the prez this fall.

Good news. Just keep plugging away!

Hello! I haven't posted in a long time, but I was excited to see the new poll results.
My mother, a life-long democrat, has said she is voting for Bush (also voted for him in 2000). She has also said she doesn't think she'll vote for any democrats anymore because they're so hateful...she's never heard a wartime president attacked as much as Bush has been!

I think many of those polled are going to vote Bush, but will not admit it. Once they close those curtains, they will be faced with the fact of who is going to protect their families, and they will pull the lever for Bush. I believe your statement will hold true, not just for Maine but for the entire country. Right now the anti-Bush wackos are dominating the media by screaming the loudest. Who in their right mind wants to entice these nuts to key your vehicle (bumpersticker), slash your tires, or torch your house (yard sign)? I am an adamant Bush supporter but have no sticker on my car or sign in my yard because I don't trust liberal thugs.
I believe many will pull the lever for Bush once their anonymity is assured behind the voting booth curtain.

I wish Barbara Bush would have a rally here. She is very popular, with the children's wing of Maine Medical named for her. She contributes a lot to children's cancer projects and reading projects here and think she would be a big boost to the President.
