Newsweek Poll (OF VOTERS UNDER 30): Race is now dead even for voters under 30
MSNBC ^ | Sept. 25, 2004 | Brian Braiker

Posted on 09/25/2004 8:07:31 AM PDT by Nascardude

Sept. 24 - John Kerry’s lead among younger voters has vanished as they become increasingly inclined to see the country as headed in the right direction, according to the first GENEXT poll conducted since the Republican National Convention in late August. advertisement If the election were held today, the two main candidates would be neck-and-neck among under-30 voters, with 45 percent of them voting for Kerry and 44 percent for President George W. Bush. Independent candidate Ralph Nader draws 6 percent of the youth vote. Last month Kerry had the support of 50 percent of young voters, Bush had 41 percent. (In the most recent NEWSWEEK poll of all registered voters, taken between Sept. 9 and 10, Bush led Kerry with 49 percent of the vote versus the challenger's 43 percent.) The increased support for Bush is also reflected in the narrowing spread between younger voters who believe the country is headed along the right track or in the wrong direction. Last month, 54 percent of those polled felt the country was headed in the wrong direction, compared to 42 percent who saw it as being on the right track. In the new poll, nearly as many people felt it was on the right track (47 percent) as felt it was heading in the wrong direction (51 percent). TAKE THE GENEXT POLL The incumbent and his challenger are tied among voters under 30. Which one gets your vote? Or are you waiting for the debates to choose? Tell us what you think.

On another forum, I had a near heart attack this morning. The title of the post was "Race now Dead Even Kerry 45/Bush 44 in Newsweek poll" Then in the actual thread he mentioned that it was only for voters under 30. I was like "Why I oughta...." I considered doing that here. But then I was like, nah I'd better not.

Something doesn't figure. Statistical dead head with women and under thirty and a huge lead among men. Yet most polls show him with a 5 to 6 point lead. I have a tough time believing there are enough votes in the African-American and Bluehair communities to close the male gap that much.

This is great news. I think this generation is a lot smarter than their Britney/hip-hop/punk'd image. It's great for our country. The indoctrination of public schools, media and universities didn't take with half of these kids. Hurray.

The left has to take good news where they can get it I 'spose.

Yep. The under 30 vote. That's the demographic that everyone covets. Yep.

Next we will read that kerry is polling slightly ahead in the highshcool dropout, single mother of 4 demographic...

That is not the point. Historically those folks don't vote, so the poll is not really relevant. I would be very surprized if this election cycle is any different.

Bluehair, yes, which is skewed toward women anyway. (Men die sooner, and therefore stop casting votes, unless they are buried in a DemoRat ward in a DemoRat city.)

Last night Gary McNamara on WBAP was talking about an MTV poll which showed Kerry with a substantial lead among young voters. I don't trust MTV of course, and was even more skeptical when the poll showed that drug legalization was one of the top three issues.

This poll confirms what I suspected. Kerry is leading among the dope heads that run MTV. These are the same people who don't care if their young viewers die barfing blood in an alley, as long as they're wearing blue jeans advertised on MTV when they do it.

That is why this "slightly" over 30ish person is voting for Bush.

I am 33 and most the people I know under 35 are voting for Bush. President Bush is going to clean up with the younger voter; on the Social Security issue. President Bush will get the Social Security reforms he campaigning on. This issue will make the Democrat party all but expired once Social Security is privatized.

Another (barely!) under 30 woman vote for Bush.

Why do you think they ran such a misleading headline?

MTV is owned by Viacom which also owns CBS. They have been running a scare ad campaign on MTV spreading rumors about a draft if President Bush is reelected.

Conventional wisdom states that blacks don't vote much, but seniors are big voters.

I wish I could say the same. There is a mix of people I know that support or against Bush.

I'm not sure Kerry can even carry the sex-heads, party-heads, and dope-heads, either. These people are highly superficial and even they won't want to look at his ugly horse face and serpent tongue for four long years.

As my teenager (17) tells me, the man is just gross. And all his friends think so, too.

Kerry will get 90% of the black vote. The question is, 90% of what. So far, no enthusiasm for Kerry in the black community. Edwards, yes, the second JFK after Clinton. Kerry, nope.

The RATS nominated the wrong guy.

Very nice. I also think the young Bush supporters will be more inclined to vote than the illiterate RATS.
