Thought a thread in Breaking News for the weekend covering Hurricane Jeanne would be a good thing. Post your link, pics, updates and freeper check-in's here
Orlando is predicted to get hurricane-force winds.
King of the next page ping.
Broward checking in
"Will Orlando escape this storm? My MIL lives there. Thanks in advvance."
No- Orlando is not escaping. They're expecting 85-100 mph winds for 5-12 hours stedy. This does not include tornados and gusts...go here to see Central Florida weather:

Probably not. I'm just north of Orlando and we are ready for it to hit.

Hurricane now at 26.8N, 77.9W... we'll see how long that station lasts.
thanks. It was beautiful just now when I came out of Winn Dixie -- found myself thinking how beautiful it is here when it isn't storming or threatening to or overly dry so there's fires . . .
No; Orlando might see winds up to 100mph (depending on where you are - the city is spread out a bunch).

I am flipping stations. I usually watch channel 9 Orlando for local news, but the weather guy on there is driving me bonkers. He is saying the hurricane will be over kissimee by 8 pm tonight. Not so bad, but he does it as if he has a hotline from God on this stuff. I listened to him on the radio during Charley when I was in my closet with my weather radio as he proudly declared (right at 11pm) "the eye of hurricane charley has completely, officially moved offshore".
Umm....at the time he said that, I was IN the eye, and it was still moving NE from me, many miles from the shoreline. At 11pm the eye GPS was officially at the Daytona airport, right near me.
I called to suggest he not act so definitive about this stuf, but they hung up on me. I guess they don't care. but the rest of their news is tops, IMO.
Thanks, She is with me in Nashville right now but her hubby is in Orlando. They lost some shingles during Charley and an orange tree. They have an aviary and I guess the birds will be moved to the living room for the 3rd time this season. LOL
Prayers to all affected by this storm from hell.
Their home is made of concrete.
Data Station in Bahamas (SPGF1): Down to 983MB/29.03
FYI-
This is a great hurricane forum. (not that hurricanes are great--they suck.)

From another board:After seemingly quiet most of the day, our Polk County Emergency Management people finally got off the pot early this afternoon. They had originally announced that 9 shelters plus a special needs shelter would open at noon, but pushed the time back until 2 PM. Now that have just announced a mandatory evacuation of mobile home parks and low lying areas. That's what you call GREAT TIMING, several hours after realizing that the centre would be coming dangerously near your area!
((back to my voice...))
Forgive my laughter - but that is very funny.
It'll likely be in - or at the edge of - the eye within another hour or so.
To my fellow Floridians in Central and Southern Florida--you all are in my thoughts and prayers. I pray the wind, rain, power outages, etc. will be minimal.
Feel free to e-mail me if you liked--I've been through enough of these bas$#ds, trust me.
On my way out at this moment to bring the patio furniture in (for the fourth time).

You mean that weather guy has the hurricane hitting Kissimee before it hits the beach?
I remember, after enduring the north eyewall of Andrew, and guessing from watching my barometer, that the eye was already in the Everglades, listening to a weather guy on radio in Miami warning everyone that the eye of Andrew had yet to come ashore.
