Hang in there, Chris, and all involved! Up here in Northern Virginia the sun's out, but we're expected to get Jeanne sometime Monday afternoon.

Hey Mulder, I'm in Clermont for this one, instead of Tennessee where I belong. It should be interesting. Stay safe!

Yeah... looks like the eye is headed right for Lake County. Maybe it will keep pushing west though....

Right, but if it undergoes an eyewall replacement cycle before landfall, it conceivably could briefly lose intensity. I don't know when the last cycle was, so I don't know how likely that is.

That's the sad part. This storm is stronger than Frances, and these people need to leave. Prayers for everyone in it's path.

My wife is out shopping for relaxation. I don't think she is going to like the 5 oclock news.

More humor -- Someone got a jump on shirts! I live in Port Charlotte and the only thing left is to grin and bear it. I think that it has made Floridains appreciate each other more. I am surprise and impressed by the kindness people have shown!

My info's about 24 hours old, but in yesterday's forecast they said we should start seeing the effects of Jeanne during Monday's ride home.

Hope people have not gotten complacent since this is their 4th.

Not complacent, but exhausted:
* Physically
* Mentally
* Financially
We have been either surviving, or preparing constantly, for 6-7 weeks now.

Good grief.

I get so little in the way of local news/weather over here - it comes out of either Norfolk or Salisbury, MD that I pretty much rely on the hurricane threads on FR to figure out what's going on!!!!

HURRICANE JEANNE Weekend thread - LIVE - and freeper check-in

I read that title to read "freeper chick-in.

So I showed up to the thread with a bottle of banana oil, a beach towel, and some D-cell batteries.

Financially is the factor that those who call for evacuations do not seem to understand.
Yes- it is safer to be elsewhere when a hurricane hits- BUT, these poor people in Florida( except for the millionaires) probably don't have the budgets that allow 4 evacs in a month!
Hotels/motels cost, gas, supplies- what if your car isn't going to make another long roadtrip? All of these are factors- along with the sheer ' oh to hell with it' feeling.
It's mentally exhausting. It's surreal.
I am praying for all in Jeanne's path.
The only advice this New Orleanian can give:
GET OFF THE BEACH- and pray.
