COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry canceled a campaign visit to Columbus on Thursday because of a strained voice, a campaign spokeswoman said Wednesday night.

"With the debates coming up, he needs to balance his campaign schedule and keep his voice strong," spokeswoman Kathy Roeder said.

Kerry also canceled a trip to Iowa on Thursday to rest his voice, and the campaign said vice presidential nominee John Edwards would take his place.

Fellow freepers! This is definitely great news. Kerry will be losing votes in IA and OH over this. The citizens therein will not sympathize with his frail throat! Mark my words! Bush now has OH and IA for dead sure!

It may be that conserving his voice by cancelling OH and IA is a form of rebudgeting scarce resources. Yesterday the University of Cincinnati found Bush ahead of Kerry by 11 points in OH; I've forgotten what IA was yesterday, but the president was ahead there, too. Not appearing in these two states is like reducing advertsing to concentrate resources effectively elsewhere, namely, the debates.

This may signify that the Kerry campaign is signing off on OH and IA.

"Is Kerry going to do a Torricelli?"

I think so. My opinion for 2 years has been that The Witch will be the candidate. Of course, who knows?????

I'm very concerned about these cancellations. If Kerry continues to prevent the American people from hearing and seeing him, he might really start to creep up in the polls.

I'm late reading this thread, but you are so right about Carville. I commented to my husband as we were watching that I've never seen him so subdued. Hmmmm....

So what will happen is, Bush will continue campaigning hard with no letup, and Monsieur LeQuerry will be at home in his fainting chair. Public perception will continue to solidify...

Let's just hope Bush doesn't make the same mistake as last time by turning in early. He needs to be out there campaigning to the very last moment.

I think you're right. I was really shocked when I saw how bad Kerry looked and sounded today. I think there's something more to this than a head cold and laryngitis.

Maybe he got "the call"....the "Clinton call."

Whenever he's before the public his poll numbers tank. He's getting off the campaign trail to keep from sinking further before the debates.

Signing off or not signing off. I'm not sure. But I'm sure JFK no longer has a chance at taking those states barring a horrendous misstep by Bush in response to terror in Iraq or a great market crash..etc.

He was sounding pretty horrible yesterday. I knew this was coming. He's a lilly.

I think the man has more illness than his throat. Keep a close eye on the next 5 -10 days.

I agree completely. For starters, I believe he has a fever and strep throat. I also believe he has more serious medical problems that are not being disclosed.

I wish he would learn! When I heard him on the tube last night, I just knew it spelled trouble.

If he wouldn't try sounding like Dean leading up to "The Scream," he would be able to speak for more than a day or two per month.

I want him talking; the more he opens his mouth, the deeper he digs his campaign's grave.

When this guy is "singing" to the choir he has to shout with a voice between an alto and a tenor in order for anyone to hear him. After 10 minutes of his "Bush" attack drivel the audiences start napping off!!!

09/19/2004... Kerry launches new attack on Bush's Iraq policies....John Kerry was set to step up attacks on George W. Bush...... 09/22/2004....John Kerry canceled a campaign visit to Columbus on Thursday because of a strained voice.

When you lie that much, it must hurt.

I bet if we charted his days off the campaign, we'd see the same period of time between disappearances. He needs the Botox injections before the debates! Either that or the man does not have the stamina to be president. He hasn't voted in the Senate since he started the campaign and STILL takes more vacation days than Bush. Meanwhile, Bush is campaigning AND doing his job.
It's not as if Lurch can't afford to fly around and still do his job in the Senate...he's just an incapable rich guy who is dabbling in politics.

Kerry is scheduled for Philadelphia this Friday at the University of Pennsylvania. If he doesn't show up in that swing state, you can bet something BIG is up.
