Welcome to my world.

In the Peoples Republic of Maryland, MULTIPLY convicted felons have been given the right to vote now, in between trips to the slammer. Why? Because 65,000 black men were 'disenfranchised'. And now, the Demoncrat controlled House of Delegate wants to extend the voting INTO the prisons!!!!

People laughed at me when I said that the drug gangs were nothing more than Brown Shirts for the Dems. They aren't laughing about it anymore.

You think motor voter is bad. We have on the spot registration & all you have to bring as identification is something like a utility bill envelope to prove you're a resident. Even with that, it's not enough for the left, cuz they have registration drives going on. Even if exit polls in Wisconsin give the state to Bush by 10%, expect the state to go to Kerry.

This is very scary stuff! There must be a way to revamp our voting system, and make sure only Valid ID's and citizens can vote! Or at least have a valid Picture ID, to keep the dead vote out!

It is truly amazing in the computer age we live in, that these problems can't be solved.

I mean, they could do it in stages.

There must be a way!!

Why should violent felons be able to vote in LIBERAL judges or legislators or governors who will use taxpayers money to provide more country club prisons for these vile animals? Who in turn will appoint sentencing commissions to recommend lenient sentences for these vile animals? As it is they only serve roughly 30% of their sentences on state level crimes. Or liberal parole board members.

By the way, my Merriam-Webster Unabridged Dictionary defines a felon simply as, "a person who has committed a felony." How can anyone convicted of a felony become an ex-felon? A murderer is still a murderer years after his crime. Can we ever call him an ex-murderer?

I'm being too lazy for html. Everything above the line is text from the link. It's a good read.

I've thought the same thing since 2000. I thought Margaret Farrow was going to take the issue on. Here we are again, 4 years later & nothing has changed. At this point, I'm sure Doyle will veto any law passed to fix it.

Millions of U.S. citizens, including a disproportionate number of black voters,

Disproportionate based on what, blacks as a percentage of the overall population, or as a percentage of convicted felons? The "journalist" who put his/her name on this piece of DNC propaganda probably doesn't have the brains to think this deeply.

What else can can we expect from the Democrat Rooters (Reuters).

This is a disgustingly biased article and just one more example of the left-wing media in this country. This is supposed to be news?

Anytime we try and clean up the voter rolls and prevent multiple voting, these people are out screaming disenfrachisement, voter intimidation and suppression.

They want the system left the way it is so they can cheat...nothing else.

Yahoo has great webmail I use a lot. They recently went to 100MB of storage for free. But I'll probably switch to Gmail when available.

millions of other votes in the 2000 presidential election were lost due to clerical and administrative errors...

Millions?!?! Yeah, right. I'd be surprised if it was as many as 5,000 nationwide. How many military absentee ballots were lost due to the efforts of the Gore/DNC lawyers?

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

As usual, the MSM has filed a false story. The laws against felons voting go all the way back to the Colonial legislatures under British rule, before the American Revolution. So the assertion that these laws were "intended to reduce black voting" are mindless twaddle.

Blacks who owned property were allowed to vote in Virginia and other colonies. Felons in most states were NOT allowed to vote. And the US Supreme Court has upheld the right of each state to decide for itself whether felons should be allowed to vote. (That's because the Constitution gives that decision to "the legislatures of the several states.")

People who are convicted of felonies self-select themselves. They decide to commit the acts they are convicted of. And they lose certain rights as a result of those decisions. It is no more "discrimination" to exclude felons than it is to ignore the views of those citizens who do not vote. Committing a felony is as much a personal decision as is the decision not to go to the polls.

The largest category of those legally disenfranchised consists of almost 5 million former felons who have served prison sentences and been deprived of the right to vote under laws that have roots in the post-Civil War 19th century and were aimed at preventing black Americans from voting.

This is proof that an intelligence test needs to be passed before one is allowed to vote - and this "journalist" certainly would not pass it!

What is the connection between "laws that have roots in the post-Civil War 19th century and were aimed at preventing black Americans from voting" and the ban on convicted felons? Blacks in the post-Civil War South were (for the most part) former slaves, not felons. Poll taxes and literacy tests were among the main impediments that kept most blacks from voting, not laws regarding felons. But I guess its unfair to expect a "journalist" to check alleged facts and to know basic U.S. history.

Of course, the Dems don't complain when they try to dis-enfranchise the military voters!

I hadn't thought of this before but the democrats are SO racist, felons cannot vote so this unfairly keeps tha black vote from being as effective? Man that takes some testicular fortitude. Next thing you will hear about them trying to get it to where felons CAN vote, but only black ones.

"The author hasn't the sense to realize that to commit and be found guilty of a felony is to lose one's right to public participation - voting included. It's just one of the punishments."

Does it also include exemption from payment of Federal Taxes? If we require felons to pay income taxes, then we should allow them to vote. If they are not allowed to participate in the process, they should not be required to participate in the funding either!

Of course, in my opinion, only people that pay taxes should be allowed to vote. If you are one of the 44-49% of this country free of the burden, then you should you should be free of the responsibility of participation!

Simple answer. Didn't your daddy tell you not to grow up and become a felon. Actions have consequences.

Voting rights come with responsibilities attached.
