Sent Down

Read: Philippians 2:5-11

Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time. —1 Peter 5:6

Bible In One Year: Ecclesiastes 7-9; 2 Corinthians 13

A sportswriter described former major league baseball player and manager Don Baylor as a person who always remembered how it felt to be "sent down" to the minor leagues. When one of his players had to be demoted, he would always meet with him to explain the decision. A team owner said of Baylor, "He has been through a lot of life lessons he can share with the players." It makes a big difference when the manager knows how a player feels.

It's always humbling to be reduced in rank, privilege, or responsibility. But these things may come as part of God's training in our lives. The apostle Peter wrote, "'God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.' Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time" (1 Peter 5:5-6).

The apostle Paul described Jesus as our example of humble submission to God. He was sent down from heaven to become a man—a "bondservant" who was obedient to the point of dying on the cross for our sins (Philippians 2:6-8).

Humility and submission to God are not signs of weakness but evidence of Christlike power and character. We can receive courage and strength from Jesus Himself, who knows how it feels to be "sent down." —David McCasland

Teach me to do the humble task
The very best I can,
And not to look for greater calls,
Which may oppose Thy plan. —Bernheisel

The mighty Architect of the universe became the humble Carpenter of Nazareth.

Today's FEEBLE

YOKE :

Heckling in the courtroom had constantly interrupted the trial, and the judge had had enough.
“The next person who interrupts the proceeding will be thrown out of my court!” he said severely, at which the defendant yelled, “Hooray!”

Greetings, Canteeners, Troops,
and All the Ships at Sea!

And Happy First Day Of Autumn to all here! Sarge is reporting from the cubes again, but waiting patiently for the digital orders that will send his starched-BDU butt back to duty. And Sarge is still shaking his head over what the new assignment entails - not a litle travel, exposure to lots of people, having to be knowledgable in even more stuff than he already is (and that's a lot, but there's even more coming), and more school - this time, in Arkansas. Dates to follow, but it'll be sometime next month...

Last night, Sarge made the first meeting of his Writers' Class - and he took a selection of all the verses he's given to everyone here. The hit of the night was the poem that Star dared me to write, about dirt! They loved it - and some of the galz there liked my reading voice, too, so it was a double!

There was frost on Sarge's jalopy this morning, and Sarge's two pumpkins are turning a golden yellow - and the leaves are turning here, too!

Well, here's a few Personals:

TONKIN/DIVA LOCA: Another Super Tuesday thread, you two!

WRITER: A superb little piece, as usual...

KJ/USVET: Are y'all watching the river gauges, like I am? Got my wading boots ready, just in case...

TOMKOW: I am guessing that your cat's name is "Gem"?

Sarge will be in the area most of the day, so Let's Have Fun!

SARGE

DISCLAIMER: If you'd like to be on/off Sarge's Canteen Roll Call, FReepmail with details!

Good morning Everyone. Good morning/afternoon/evening to our

military and our allies. Have I said thank you lately? Well, thank you again!

My, my, my here I am at the office and it is almost 0830 and I have managed to get to the Canteen BEFORE 50 posts. I can't believe it. Was everyone busy chasing trolls last night or what?

It seems that FR is sluggish today. So, I'd better get in my personals this morning real quick and then get onto the job they pay me to do.

P.s. note to terrorist who have beheaded the hostages...........watch your back...........we are coming for you...............bwahahahahahahahahah...................
