Kerry making scant progress in crucial states
MSNBC ^ | Sept. 18, 2004 | Tom Curry

WASHINGTON - New polling data suggest that Sen. John Kerry has made little headway with voters in five states that President Bush narrowly won in 2000.

If Kerry wins only the states that Democrat Al Gore won in 2000, he will have 260 electoral votes, 10 shy of the number needed to win the White House.

In polling conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling and Research for MSNBC in the five states — Arizona, Missouri, New Hampshire, Ohio and West Virginia — Kerry is statistically tied with Bush in only one state, West Virginia, and trails in the others.

Kerry is furthest behind in Arizona, where Bush leads him by 11 percentage points.

With only six full weeks of campaigning left, Kerry faces a difficult task in bringing voters in Republican-leaning states over to his side. So Kerry has invested heavily in Ohio, Nevada and West Virginia in a bid to pry some of the Bush states into his column.

For some odd reason, Florida was missed. Florida once again is the lynchpin. Whomever wins it, probably gets the prize.

I heard no pollling has been done in FL recently because of the huricane situation. It is expected to resume in the next week or two.

FL, PA, OH, and MI. sKerry needs to take 3 of the 4 to win, W only needs an even split and its looking like W could take FL, PA and OH. (IMHO)

Bush will win Florida. Jeb's done a good job for them. Plus, I don't think Floridians have forgotten how Al Gore turned their state into a laughing stock while his team of lawyer goons threanted lawsuits against the very counties who supported him.

Who the hell wants to stay up all hours of the day and night counting dents in punch cards again? Flordians, raise your hands.

I thought so. Bush by a landslide in Florida.

I still cannot believe that even 100 people in the entire coutry would vote for Kerry. Having said that, I fully agree with your assessment, but we do have a long way to go. We'll have two debates where the libs will try like hell to spin in Kerry's direction when they conclude, and there is always tightening in the final weeks. I also believe that the press, leftist as they are, also want a tight race to cover and will help by editorializing in their news coverage in the coming weeks.

True, and an example is this article which only focuses on the Bush states being contended by Kerry. What about all of the Gore states being contended by Bush (e.g. Iowa, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oregon, Maine, Wisconsin and even New Jersey)?

Yep!! Agree completely! The crap that we are getting in the name of "news" is all BS. I'm convinced that journalists across the country are starting their "full court press" to get Kerry back into the race.
