" How do you QUIT the armed forces?"

A secret that they don’t want you to know in boot camp is that you can just quit (at least that’s what I’ve been told). Just like TexasTransplant says, people are not in the Marines until they complete boot camp. Therefore, because they can’t be “discharged” from something they were never in, there’s no BCD or other than honorable discharge.

But after helping managed the Camp Pendleton “transient platoon” for a few months after graduation, I think waiting there for many weeks in harsh conditions to process out is as bad as boot camp. Worse considering they’re reminded every minute that they’re washouts.

I read that he was actually hospitalized twice.

Also, when he told his story to a Boston Globe reporter, sometime in February of this year, he also said that there was another person, named Conn, in the room when Bush's files were being destroyed. The BG reporter also asked Conn, who said that the whole thing never happened. The BG reporter was on Hannity & Colmes a few days ago, and it was also mentioned in some other articles.

So all the news community knew full well that Burkett was a liar and is delusional.

"Burkett's mental illness will eventually be his (and Rather's) legal defense."

Nope, that defense won't help Rather. If Rather's source turns out to be mentally ill, then Rather's claim that his source was "unimpeachable" fails the test...and so Rather goes down.

"I agree. They'll hang this whole mess around Burkett's neck, pat him on the back and say he's not responsible because he's mentally ill. And they're not reponsible because they took him at his word and thought he was credible."

Nope. Burkett's mental illness episode has been in the public domain for more than 7 months. So Rather's claim that his source was "unimpeachable" fails the laugh test and Dan still goes down for the count.

"Yes, and it will also protect those down (up?) the line from Burkett. He's going to take the fall to protect others."

Nope. Rather declared that his source for the forged documents was "unimpeachable," something that a man whose mental illness epsiode has been in the news for the past 7 months fails to support. Thus, if Rather's source goes down, so too does Rather.

...Which thereby establishes a "motive" for Dan's anti-Vietnam war crusade, and for his later anti-Bush vendetta.

"Dan Rather's Main "Memogate" Source Admits He Has Been Certified As Mentally Ill and Hospitalized!"

"Before finally winning medical benefits in July 1998, he (Bill Burkett) said, he suffered a nervous breakdown and was hospitalized for depression."

After consideration, I reckon you're right about Rather. But I was also thinking beyond Burkett in terms of other democRATS that may be participating in the action. For example, this lawyer Os seems to be around a lot.

IMO .. Burkett was just the fall guy

If someone could fax a document of Times New Roman 12 text from that Kinko's location, capture it on a computer, and post it on the web, that would help clear up a lot.

In particular, (1) the letter shapes were distorted, pretty consistently, in a certain way which could only happen if the first-generation fax machine did it; (2) if someone has the earlier AP .pdf with the Kinko's number (I read that it had since been replaced with a lower-resolution version) it would be interesting to compare the date/time stamp format of that fax with that of the Kinko's machine.

One very real possibility I think needs to be considered (and either confirmed or rebutted) is that Burkett sent something from Kinkos at the time indicated on AP's fax, but that the AP's fax was sent my a machine programmed to lie about the date/time/origin so as to match whatever it was that Burkett had sent.

Os is a wannabe, not a real player. Oh, he may have set up some meetings, but there is little value in pursuing him now that we've got former Dem Senator Max Cleland on record getting "useful information" from Burkett and then telling Burkett to contact the Kerry Campaign directly.

I don't see how Burkett can be be fall guy here...I forget who it was but they had an interview with the lady who CBS hired to examine the DOC's and she even told them she wasn't sure they were real!!
If this goes to court... which it better a crime has been commited here!!
They will drag her in as a witness which won't look good at all for CBS or Rather ....funny thing to in the interview she said she knew more then she could tell ....I would really like to know what else she knows!!

The wizzard of Os is one of the many stones that needs to be turned, as is Max (and Max Cleland has established ties with the Kerry campaign as shown by his little trip to the Bush ranch in Texas recently). I think both know a great deal, but by no means does the buck stop at either one of these guys.

I agree with others here and on other threads - this is much bigger than Burkett. But that isn't going to stop the left from trying to make him fall, hoping that this will all go away. Its our duty to see past that.
