Free Republic has been reported on, for the first time that I know of, in the Japanese- language press online.
Granted, it is a Japanese translation of a recent original on-line American article; nevertheless, it has been no doubt seen by thousands of Japanese readers on the Internet!
Here is the URL, (as well as linked above):

Thanks. You are indeed an original. By the way, hope you havent had any more kids of liberals middle finger salues, i.e., flip-offs, as you drive your vehicle through that Puebla de Nuestra Reina de Los Angeles.

Actually, the tolerant liberals have given me a few more salutes when they see my car. I bring out their true nature.

Beat Takeshi and his crackpot theories. Hmm! Par for the course.
Only in Japan could you have have a noted Professor from Tokyo University, a Vice-Minister of Economics, a former porn star, the Executive Director of a financial think tank, and a stand-up manzai comedian, all appear for one hour on a serious TV panel discussion on the 'Value of the Yen Projected Through 2006', without a single Japanese viewer thinking in his mind "Gee, which two pictures here don't fit?" What passes for serious discussion on Japoanese TV sometimes amazes me. (And yet, NHK has the best travel and world political documentaries).

Be careful, AmericanIntokyo, or the DNC will label you a Federalist Society political operative specializing in tempura tampering.

Another amazing thing is the ability of the mass media to change from news to pure tabloid slander. And was that former pron star Ijima Ai? DAMN! How did I guess that one. There are only 2 Japanese talent that I trust with my news: Tommies Masa and Akai Hidekazu. Those guys don't pull any punches. Tommies Masa almost knocked me off my chair when he challenged Hosoki Kazuko to predict something USEFUL for the rest of Japan.
Japan, love it, or love it and be totally confused by it.

Free Republic site is not kanji/hiragana/kana (or any other foreign script for that matter) capable. Otherwise for all of us it will come out:
フリー・リパブリック is my guess。Or 自由共和国00
--at least in the "Your Reply" box. However, if HTML'd and then addended, it should be possible.

Actually, there is a Japanese company called "Free Republic". Here is their site: At that site, people could see how "Free Republic" reads in Japanese katakana script:

Free Republic, as written in Japanese by a company with that name, would look like this (it is the more abbreviated characters you'll see in Japanese at the bottom):
