The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic invites all FReepers and lurkers in good standing to join us outside the Washington, D.C. bureau of CBS News as we stand with our friends Accuracy in Media to call for CBS to come cleIY @ over the forged documents story.
We will be urging the firing of CBS News President Andrew Heyward, anchor Dan Rather and producer Mary Mapes for their gross irresponsibility in foisting the forged Texas Air National Guard documents on the American people.
Accuracy in Media and the D.C. Chapter held a similar demonstration last year at the New York Times' D.C. bureau in the wake of the Jayson Blair scandal where we called for the firing of Howell Raines.
When: Tuesday, September 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: The sidewalk in front of CBS News, 2020 M Street, NW, Washington, D.C.
Bring: Signs bearing messages calling for the firing of Heyward, Rather and Mapes, as well as signs pointing out CBS' record of outrageously biased reporting.
This is a permitted demonstration.
As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for protesting will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence, no profanity, no racism, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.
Please note: This is a non-political protest. Do not bring or wear any material advocating for or against any political candidate.
I'll be there a little after 12 (4 blocks away) - will there be any extra signs? My home renovations are still covering my sign materials.
Yes, should be plenty of signs. See you then!
Sorry you can't be there. It's a nice sunny day, perfect for wandering downtown in your jammies!
Have fun today!
have a good FReep. :))
I did.
When do we get an after action report! Would love to see some pics.
I had to work and was unable to attend this Freep myself, so I've only heard a few bits of news from the Freep from Kristinn. But...
I'm sure the intrepid DC Chapter members will have a report up soon.
Right Kristinn, staytrue, sauropod, hellinahandcart, etc???
Excellent Fisking, BTW.
Accusing Rove, et al. of a plot to raise CBS's ratings? Reminds me of the charge that the impeachment of Clinton was AN ATTEMPTED COUP ... which ... would have put Gore in office ... and almost certainly led to a Gore victory in 2000 ... Ah yes ... LSD-flashback logic ...
We were waiting for kristinn and Bill F to start an after-action thread. Kristinn arranged the thing, and BillF has the pics.
All I can say is, there were three guys in pajamas. kristinn and staytrue put theirs on OVER their clothes.
My husband, on the other hand, wore his on the streets of downtown DC. Kinda like Vinnie the Chin. :D
I had a great time, wish you could have all been here. There were an above-average amount of cameras, and I've already seen us on FOX (thought I don't remember FOX being there) and heard us on the CBS newsbreak on WBAL. Hope there's more.

Howdy. We had 15 people by my count (including AIM and RatherBiased.com people).
FReeper attendees included kristinn; billf; bmwcyle; staytrue; TBP; sauropod; hellinahandcart; nina0113; tellw. Three of us were in pajamas (kristinn, staytrue and myself).
I kept feeling like RainMan walking around downtown DC in pajamas (10 minutes 'till Wapner).
I offered to give Microsoft Word classes in how to make forged documents (using Office73) ;-). Some of the people reading the signs couldn't help laughing at that one.
We kept asking, "What did Dan Rather know and when did he know it?"
One blonde in a green skirt came out and gushed, "Dan Rather is the man!"
We were asked if we were paid by somebody. Somebody asked us if we worked for CBS. I told them, no, we were the new media!
Had a couple of nutcases accost us too. One guy kept ranting about being the "true" minority, the Native Americans. He ranted on about Custer.
Another guy accused us of "stepping over the homeless" to protest See-BS news.
There were several newsie types that passed us on the sidewalk that said "What about FOX News?!!" We asked them, what documents did FOX forge? They seemed to be incensed at the very existence of FOX News.
While driving today, I heard a news report from ABC radio (nation-wide feed) about this FReep. They mentioned both Free Republic and Accuracy in Media. They said there were signs that said "Rather Biased". They also quoted "What did Dan know and when did he know it?".
Thank you! Love the pics. I really love the PJ's!
What about FOX News? Hahahahahahahaha! WHAT ABOUT FOX NEWS?!!! What does that have to do with the price of tea in China or document experts in New York?
Let's look at Fox News:
Brit Hume - former star reporter with ABC
Typical Panel: Juan Williams - liberal WaPo reporter
Moira Liasson - NPR liberal talker
Mort Kondracke - establishment liberal
editor
Fred Barnes - conservative writer/tv
Bill O'Reilly - personally worked with Dan Rather for years.
Greta Van Susteren - former CNN host
Alan Colmes - liberal radio talker
Sean Hannity - conservative radio talker
Shepherd Smith - don't know background or politics
John Gibson - conservative, populist, independent
Fox News gives a broader spectrum of opinion than any other news operation out there. The idea that Fox News is right wing is nuts.
The RatherBiased.com people had their own T-shirts.
Which is not a bad idea.
I am (cough) rather disappointed that we weren't shown on FOX chanting "what did Rather know? When did he know it?"because it was funnier, but the "Rather, Mapes and Heyward have to go" bit WAS the main message, and they had a good shot of one of my signs, so I'm pleased.
In some people's minds, FOX has done far worse than CBS.
Don't ask them WHAT, because they can't give you anything more specific than "they lie all the time".
If you saw some of the protests outside the convention last month, "#$%& FOX News!" was one of the more heartfelt cheers.
