HURRICANE IVAN--FREEPER CHECK IN, RECOVERY, AID REQUEST THREAD
Self | 17 Sep 2004 | Commish

Posted on 09/17/2004 7:04:29 AM PDT by commish

Since we have had numerous FREEPERS in the area effected by Hurrican Ivan, I thought it would be good to start a thread for FREEPERS to check in.

Please place any damage reports, requests for assistance, etc here.

"now just have to recover from the stress of wringing hands, during Ivan."

You're not kidding! That's putting it mildly. Ivan has been a terrible storm.

Yes, Debra is my daughter,
and she has two sons and one daughter.
The reporter didn't see the little guy,
as he was being treated by an attending
physician at the time my daughter talked
to the reporter. (I am grateful the
quoted remarks have been edited from the
ones she told me she had made to the reporter...lol).

She's staying at a friend's house in luxury in NYC for a few days...
then on to stay with us for a while,

BUT

she is going back to resume her life there as soon as possible.
I "think" I am taking the children to Vb with me for
the school year.

What's going on in Nashville with Ivan?

St Al's ?

Ivan barely skirted here but we are headed to Boone NC on Tuesday to pick up and elderly aunt to stay with us before she heads down to winter with kin in Jackson.

I hear in Boone area, it did a lot of flooding.

Good news is that Annette and I are going to spend 2 nites at our family mountain home without children on this trip....we've only spent 2 total evenings together away from babies in 54 months.

Yes, g-daughter would go to St. Al's.
Middle boy to St. Francis Xavier next door to St. Al's.
The little guy will go with his mommy... I can guarantee that. :)

Two, (only two!) nights alone with Annette in 54 months?
Oh my, you're overdue. I'd say you two have earned some
time by yourselves.

Talked to my BIL in Atmore today. Lots of trees down, some on houses, some flooding. No power or water.
We faired pretty well down here on the farm south of Montgomery. All the horses are fine and we had no damage except to fences. Our dirt road is a mess and was blocked for awhile with down trees, but all the good ol' boys with chainsaws took care of that. We got our power and water back this afternoon. I was really surprised. I was actually pretty well supplied thanks to hanging out on the Threat Matrix thread.

I tried to get your link to work, but I could find nothing specific on Ft. Morgan. My parents have a condo at the Beach Club, and we've heard there might be extensive damage, but don't know for sure. What did the video show?

I've been wondering about Blam, too. I met him at a Freeper party in Metairie, LA a couple of years ago. He is a nice guy. I hope he faired well with Ivan.

I live in Panama City Beach about 300 feet from the water and at an elevation of 30 feet, give or take. Other than minimal wind damage and a small leak over my kitchen, I had no other damage that I know of. I'll have the roof shingles replaced by tomorrow. I'm certainly glad I boarded up all the windows. Had lots of tree branches down.
Have 28 palm trees in my yard.

Amazingly, none of my bee hives were knocked over or even displaced. Even more amazing, as Ivan moved north through Alabama and the then tropical forces winds continued, my bees kept flying. Incredible creatures.

I must be living right because I did not lose power or telephone service during the storm (we had hurricane force winds as Ivan made landfall followed by 60-90 MPH winds through the night. My block was the only one with power I learned today.

I have friends in Pensacola and Ft. Walton and have been unable to contact them. My prayers go out to all those folks in the western Panhandle and in south Alabama. It will be a long time before some sense of normalcy returns.

Thanks again to those who prayed for me. I was Freeping when Ivan came a callin'.

I forgot to add that during clean-up today, I found a twisted metal sign in my yard under some palm branches. The sign said: American Red Cross across the top with a Red Cross in the middle. On the bottom it read: Disaster Resistant Neighborhood.

I've no idea where the sign came from and do not recall seeing it on Front Beach Road.

Daphne is Bucolic, which suits my sister's easy relaxed manner.

Himyar, glad to hear you and BIL came thru so well. I still don't have power so am staying with relatives in north ALA until it's restored. Now that I know there was no structural damage in my neighborhood or to my home, there's no reason to rush back.

BLAM, did you come through OK? Does anyone know if blam has checked in after the storm?
