So, Burkett ran into a "real cyber crook" ~ I happen to know a guy who could do all this and cover his tracks as well. He works out in Porland, Oregon. He's big gumbahs with a Democratic party activist in Nashville TN who's deep into fuel cells, a really big interest of Senator Harkin ~ and both Harkin and this guy are former Air Force people.

There are plenty of sharks in the Democratic party who would gobble up a Burkett for 10 minutes of news. He got gobbled.

That explains it completely. He punched them out himself. Good catch.

Burkett didn't write the memos. There are too many errors (like the "Lt. Col" abbreviations) that a guardsman wouldn't make.

Don't be so sure yet. The secretary said the memos used Army abbrev. Burkett is retired Army National Guard.

... she waited on him on last (a week ago) Tuesday....

I assume that CBS would have the docs before the eve of the show (Sep 8).
Maybe these were updates?

No need to ask. Burkett is a retired systems analyst from the Army National Guard. Remember that the secretary Rather interviewed tonight said she knew the documents weren't ones she'd typed because they used Army abbreviations rather than Air Guard abbreviations? Nice of her to point that out on the record. :o)

I remember that, she mentioned the use of the word "billets" in one of the memos which she said was an Army word not AF which would be "slots".

David Van Os? Lookee what I found:

A People's Lawyer Who Will Be A People's Judge

He's running for Supreme Court and he is obsessed with Karl Rove! He's got links to Molly Ivins and James Moore (Bush's Brain) stories. And this...

"...... Karl Rove's Master Plan Started With the Texas Courts

Getting David Van Os elected to the Texas Supreme Court is not just about winning one race. It is about charging straight at the heart of Karl Rove's master plan. ...

From Molly Ivins' column, "Is Texas America?":

"Texans for Lawsuit Reform, a/k/a the bidness lobby, is a major player and has effectively eviscerated the judiciary with a two-pronged attack. While round after round of "tort reform" was shoved through the legislature, closing off access to the courts and protecting corporations from liability for their misdeeds, Karl Rove was busy electing all nine state Supreme Court justices. So even if you should somehow manage to get into court, you are faced with a bench noted for its canine fidelity to corporate special interests."

As David says, "It is all part of a big picture." We Texans have a chance this year to fight back hard against Karl's plan to steal away the people's government from the people. Placing David Van Os on the Texas Supreme Court will be one of Karl's worst nightmares. We the people have the power to make it happen.

Maybe if they betray a "source," even a phony one, they fear they will never be trusted by any future "sources" to protect their anonymity?

CBS just isn't having a good period right now. Their kindly elderly source just gave extra credence towards Burkett being involved.

I'm reading some of his ramblings and this is a guy 60 minutes put up as a star witness?

God, this is getting good and I am having way too much fun. And I am not sitting in my PJ's.

Me either. But I'm gettin' ready to put mine on. Wouldn't want to shatter Rather's delusions.

I smell a load of HOO-HAA!!!( That is sh!t for those of you in Rio Linda).

What if the documents came from McCauliffe via the headhunter in the Kerry campaign. That makes Burkett a fall guy who supplied info to them so they could produce the fake documents thus the errors in terminology. The documents are shoddy so they could nail Burkett if story falls apart. Terry has been harping on the guard story for years now. Somehow this is to easy. Speaking from experience. Put your thinking caps on...

WHY...WHY would CBS cover-up and stone wall to protect Burkett?

Two words: legal liability.

They're not just protecting their co-conspirator Burkett...they're protecting their own assets (no pun) from a civil suit by the Killians. $$$$

I didn't know he was Army. But what about the abbreviations, and the dates?

Surely Burkett knows that a Guardsman's physical is done in his birth month.

Good catch. It's looking like Burkett is the forger, and I believe the "unimpeachable source" is Mapes. She was sent down to interview Burkett. She talked with him. He conned her. Probably showed her the original documents and gave her copies of them, which she then faxed to the home office. Mapes was played for a fool and probably told Rather, "Trust me, this is the real thing--go with this story."

Although it would be nice to connect the DNC or the Kerry Campaign to this, I honestly don't think they would be that stupid. They might have been aware of the documents, but don't think they were in the loop. But I may be pleasantly surprised.
