Statement by the President of CBS News, Andrew Heyward:
"We established to our satisfaction that the memos were accurate or we would not have put them on television. There was a great deal of coroborating [sic] evidence from people in a position to know. Having said that, given all the questions about them, we believe we should redouble our efforts to answer those questions, so that's what we are doing."
We know that they want to believe the contents because it fits their political agenda.
Ladies and Gentlemen, this is exactly, precisely, how STUPID the MSM thinks we are, and they have thought of us this way for decades. Are you insulted? I certainly am!
Sounds like they were just killing Juan!
Two reasons..the local CBS stations have lousy local newscasts, so theree's no lead in..also, once peoplt get in a habit..watch a certain show..they dont' change..
>>The longer Rather and CBS are on the front page, the longer Kerry is off the front page.
What an election strategy.<<
That's what I think! I think they are stalling this only to allow the swift boat factual display to fade out and expect that the masses will just assume that both stories were fabricated as campaign stunts.
true, I am think the are up to their proverbial arses in CYA memos now! :)
Knox is on 60 minutes tonight!!! They just paraphrased the statement today in a different way on the air. LIARS.
Yes. And Rep. Chris Cox is just the one to handle those congressional hearings. He is simply superb and I am hoping to see him in higher office someday.
Watching Rather report on the forged documents story. 40 members of the House signed a letter condemning the forged documents and CBS.
CBS is right now giving an overview of the entire matter. "Some" experts doubt the veracity of the documents.
The Secretary Marian Knox says she didn't type the documents and they are forgeries but the information is correct in the memos. Also says Killian didn't like Bush.
Andrew Heyward, President, we would not have put the story on the air if we weren't comfortable with it. But we will redouble our efforts to establish veracity of the documents.
Rather: More on this story tonight on 60 Minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's speaking volumes to me.
If I hadn't witnessed the press briefing last February over the issue of George W. Bush's Guard service, I don't know if I'd be so vehement that CBS has willingly and knowingly entered into a plot with the DNC to present these forgeries to the public in the guise of "news", but after that rabid-jackal display of insane hatred of George W. Bush, I am convinced that is what we have on our hands here.
John Roberts was at that briefing and I'm reading on MRC that he has made some comments of late completely backing CBS for this report. I am getting very suspicious of his culpability in this. And now with Heyward standing by this...well.
Brit just announced the secretary is on Sixty Minutes Two tonight!
What a hoot.
What a desperate POS. He's going to stake his reputation on the 86 year old Knox's recollection that Killian expressed what was in the memos even though she thinks they're forged. She's on 60 Minutes tonight.
Right, and since we know the experts told them the documents "had some problems" it means they went forward knowingly with fake document deliberately and therefore CBS is culpable along with the forger of deliberately trying to skew a presidential election in time of war.
This is big, and its got legs.
That CBS "statement" was nonsense. Nobody asked if the documents were "accurate". They answered a question that no one asked.
If I forged a memo from Nixon and presented it as authentic, I couldn't argue to a judge that "Well, your honor, at least I got the facts right!!"
absolute nonsense!
You forgot the last line: AH to DR- You are going to go cover that little storm down in the gulf. Hey, maybe it will help this blow over.... .
Brit asks panel about the 'contents are important, not the fakeness'.
Surprisingly, Juan shakes his head 'no'. Just the other day, Juan was the one spouting that very sentiment--that the contents were important. Juan is now a flipflopper.
What questions are they going to try to answer? The questions about the authenticity of the memos? The questions about where the memos came from? The questions about who they used to authenticate the memos to their satisfaction?
Probably not. They are probably referring to Rather's list of question for Pres. Bush about his Guard service. Those are the only questions for which they can "redouble" their efforts, since there was no effort to answer to the other questions.
I think with that statement CBS has admitted that the documents are not the real thing. The wall is cracking. I think they are hoping to stay low and let this blow over.
Yeah, this stinks to high heaven. There was NO reason for CBS to delay the release of this statement over and over again... and when they finally do release the statement it doesn't say that the documents are AUTHENTIC, but that they're simply accurate.
CBS, you're not fooling anyone.
